Arlene B. Forney

Arlene B. Forney, 92, of Manor Township, passed into eternity, at home, on Friday, January 19, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Arlene was the wife of the late Roy Forney, Jr., who passed away in 1999. She was born in Lancaster, daughter of the late Ira and Myrtle Rohrer Barley. Arlene was a lifelong and dedicated follower of Jesus, being a member of Central Manor Church. She was a light to many. Arlene served in the choir, hospitality, Sunday School, Awana Program, small groups, service projects, prayer support, visitations and various other ways at Central Manor Church. Arlene's caring service extended into the world as a nurse at Lancaster General Hospital and for Dr. Richard Bryson and Dr. Harry Hoffman, in Landisville. For 18 years she was home and school visitor for Penn Manor School District, work in which she particularly loved to find aid for families with exceptional needs. In retirement, she served as a regular volunteer at Women and Babies Hospital. Arlene especially loved being with and helping family, including several at the end of life. She exemplified faithfulness, love and kindness.

Arlene will be deeply missed by her two children and niece: Craig (Marlene Gilles) Forney, San Marcos, CA; Linda (Thom) Cooper, Columbia and Cynthia Funk (Fred) Barley, Washington Boro. Two grandchildren: Pierre-Allen Forney and Jamie Halbleib. One brother: Donald Barley, Mountville. She was preceded in death by one sister: Jeannette Funk.

Lloyd H. Finkbiner

Lloyd H. Finkbiner, 95, of Calvary Fellowship Homes, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2024, at his residence. He was the husband of the late Bertha Boose Finkbiner, who passed away on February 28, 2021. Lloyd was born in West Hempfield Township, son of the late Samuel H. and Lena Hershey Finkbiner. He was a truckdriver/dispatcher for Pennfield Feeds for 45 years before his retirement in 1990. Lloyd was a member of Mountville Church of the Brethren, was a Veteran of the US Army, serving during the Korean Conflict and enjoyed Penn State and Philadelphia Eagles football, camping, hiking and riding bicycle on the trails.

 He is survived by his children: Douglas (Kimberly) Finkbiner; Cindy (Jack) Abel; Robert (Robbin) Finkbiner and Carol (Sam) Field. Six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother.

Margaret M. Leschke

Margaret M. Leschke, 91, of Columbia, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2024. She was the wife of the late George A. Leschke, Sr., who passed away in 1997. She was born in Columbia, daughter of the late John and Walburga Paulus Voelkl. Margaret worked at RCA Corporation and operated Sudstown Laundry, G & G Crane Rental and Susquehanna Campground with her husband. She was a graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School, Class of 1950 and had perfect attendance for all 12 years. Margaret was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and enjoyed going to the cabin in the mountains and the beach house at Bethany, DE. She loved bingo, traveling, spending time with her family and friends and her beloved dogs, especially Ozzie and ChiChi.

She is survived by her children: George A. Leschke, Jr.; Barbara Collier and Christine Agresta. Nine grandchildren: Frank Newcomer; Melissa Newcomer; Tom Deascenti, Jr.; Christopher (Allison) Deascenti; Michelle (Mike) Wighaman; Jessica (Adam) Carl; Justine (Shane McGinty) Leschke; Jordon (Derrek) Thomas and Erin (Dominic) Carevele. Ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter: Peg Deascenti and one brother: Hans Voelkl.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 409 Cherry Street, Columbia on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Daniel C. Mitzel, as Celebrant. Doris J. Sneath

Doris J. Sneath, 95, of the Mennonite Home, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2024 at her residence. She was the wife of the late C. Richard Sneath, who passed away on January 2, 2014. She was born in Lititz, daughter of the late Harvey Eckert and Florence Shirk Gulzenlichter. Doris worked as an executive secretary for Schick, Corporation for many years and also as a bookkeeper, for Standard Acoustical, before her retirement. She was a member of Hempfield United Methodist Church and enjoyed crocheting, cooking, traveling and her family, especially her grandchildren.

 She is survived by one daughter: Carol A. (Ronald L.) Wile, Mount Joy. Two grandchildren: Kristin M. (Brent) Kreider, Lititz and Jonathan R. (Rebecca) Wile, West Hempfield Township. Four grandchildren: Benjamin R. (Kati) Kreider, Alaska; Alissa M. Kreider, Lititz; Ethan J. Wile and Emma K. Wile, both of West Hempfield Township. One great-great-granddaughter: Winonna M. Kreider, Alaska.

Eugene C. “Gene” Yohe

Eugene C. “Gene” Yohe, 86, of Columbia, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024 at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Helen Mahan Yohe with whom he celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on November 1, 2023. He was born in Columbia, son of the late Harold and Mildred Evans Yohe. Gene was a setup operator for ITT Grinnell for 36 1/2 years before his retirement. He attended Columbia schools and was baptized in the Christian faith. Gene enjoyed hunting, fishing, crafts, word search puzzles, and watching San Diego Chargers football games. He was a lifetime member of the Columbia Fish and Game and the Susquehanna Fire Company (Hambones). He enjoyed family gatherings, loved his children and spending time with them. 

Surviving in addition to his wife, his children: Jeffrey A. (Gloria) Yohe, Jodi A. (Joseph) Meley, Douglas S. (Fiancée Rebecca) Yohe and Dennis E. (Corinna) Yohe. Eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters: Ruth Nace and Linda (Ronald) Wood. He was preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters.

Nicole P. "Nickie" Huggins

Nicole P. “Nickie” Huggins, 41, of Mount Joy, passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at home. She was born in York, daughter of Richard W. Huggins, Freeland, MD and Deborah A. Vestri Long, Mount Joy. She was a caregiver and a graduate of Empire Beauty School. She loved fishing and her kids.

Surviving in addition to her parents, two daughters: Jocelyn Marie Goodnight and Haley Jean Vestri, both of Austin, TX. One son: Dominic Skaggis. One granddaughter: Ivie Rein Goodnight. One brother: Richard Leroy Huggins and one sister: Catherine E. (Ryan) Davis, all of Freeland, MD. She was preceded in death by one brother: David S. Long.

Jacqueline M. Swarr

Jacqueline M. Swarr, 91, of Columbia, passed away on Friday, January 5, 2024 at Lancaster General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Robert E. Shufflebottom, Sr., and the late Dale Swarr, Sr. Jacqueline was born in Columbia, daughter of the the late Charles and Isabelle Savage Seibert. She worked in the Accounting Department for Penn Dairies and Getty. She was of the Catholic faith. Jacqueline enjoyed spending time with her family, going to the mountains, camping, reading, crocheting, knitting, going to the beach at Ocean City, MD and singing in the church choir.

She is survived by one son: David C. (Donna) Shufflebottom and one daughter: Mary K. Fisher, all of Lancaster. Seven grandchildren and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son: Robert E. Shufflebottom, Jr.

Michelle Kepner Prueitt

Michelle Kepner Prueitt, 51, of Lancaster, passed away at home, following a 9 year battle with cancer on Sunday, December 31, 2023. She was the wife of Christopher Prueitt. Michelle was born in Lancaster, daughter of Frederick W. and Rose Hecker Kepner, Lancaster. She was a graduate of Hempfield High School, Class of 1990 and James Madison University, Class of 1994. She also studied abroad in London for a semester. She was an actress, having performed at Renaissance Faires throughout the country and was a residential designer at Ethan Allen in Florida, for five years. Michelle was also in charge of the Drama Arts Department at Camp Caribou in Maine. She performed in many local productions at the Fulton Theatre, in schools and with the Theatre of the Seventh Sister and took drama and acting lessons in New York. Michelle had a passion for the Arts, loved traveling and going to the beach. She was always ready for a new adventure.

Surviving in addition to her parents, one brother: Jason F. (Kimberly) Kepner. One nephew, Chase and two nieces: Carlie and Claire.

Patricia A. Schoelkopf

Patricia A. Schoelkopf, 85, of Hilton Head Island, SC, formerly of Mountville, passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at Village Cove Assisted Living. She was the wife of the late, Edward Schoelkopf, Jr., who passed away on January 31, 2007, whom she married in 1965. Patricia was born in Columbia, daughter of the late Richard and Rita Keppel Pinkerton. She was a payroll clerk at ITT Grinnell in the 1950’s, where she met her husband. She also worked in payroll/accounting at Riverside Foundry and Kahn-Lucas Manufacturing. Patricia was a homemaker and volunteered as a docent at Rockford Museum. Patricia was baptized and married at Holy Trinity Catholic Church and was a member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church prior to moving to South Carolina and was a graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School, Class of 1956.

She is survived by one daughter: Patricia Schoelkopf, wife of Kevin Lewis, Hilton Head Island, SC. Two sisters: Janet Robertson, Columbia and Rita (Patrick) Wood, Drumore. One sister-in-law: Lupina Pinkerton, Honolulu, HI and Newport, PA. Two nieces: Alanna Pinkerton and Esther Frost.

She was never one to conform to anyone, not even in her last hours. She had everyone fooled, so much so that the nurses from hospice even took her off of the transition list. Her daughter was thankful for a peaceful transition, and that no medicines had to be used to comfort her journey. Whether she was taking care of her sisters, as a teenager/young adult, her husband, her daughter, or so many of those animals that she rescued or adopted (kitties, puppies, opossums, rabbits, birds and so forth), she wanted all of those beating hearts to beat forever.

She lived by the Emily Dickinson poem:

If I can stop one heart from breaking, I shall not live in vain;
If I can ease one life the aching, or cool one pain,
Or help one fainting robin into his nest again, I shall not live in vain.

Her daughter cannot thank Village Cove Assisted Living enough for everything that they did for her since June of 2018. She definitely made her mark from her first day until her last!! The staff at Village Cove are a special group for sure!! There have been many positives that have come out of the last five and a half years. Her daughter cannot thank the staff at Village Cove enough for respecting her, protecting her integrity and embracing her spitefulness over and over again. She was even getting “picked up” by the guys to the very end. Thank you John, for always keeping her on her toes and making her smile before bedtime. She LUVED your boisterous voice, your companionship and most of all, to be picked up by your strong arms. She trusted you with all her heart. Thank you Kathy for all of your overnight care and those weekend dinners, and of course your care that morning. Thank you Jennifer, and Seconda for all your oversight! Thank you Asia, Kayla, Edith, Di, Sally, Misty, Cynthia and so many more that are part of this AWESOME community!! If you are looking for a home away from home for a loved one on HHI, please look into this facility. No matter who oversees/owns them, they continue to stand above the rest.

Mary Lou Gentzler

Mary Lou Gentzler, 91, of Columbia, passed away on Monday, December 25, 2023 at home. She was the wife of the late Henry G. Gentzler, Sr. who passed away on August 23, 2016. Mary Lou was born in Columbia, daughter of the late Harry M. and Mildred E. Siltzer Bartch. She was an Accounts Payable Supervisor for Armstrong World Industries for over twenty years before her retirement in 1992. Mary Lou was a a lifetime member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels and family and funeral dinners at church. She was recognized by her church for her dedicated service. She enjoyed playing cards, board games, cooking, baking, traveling, casino's and getting together with her family every Saturday, her entire life, for lunch. 

She is survived by one daughter: Kimberly K. Bell, Millersville. Four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son: Henry G. "Hank" Gentzler, Jr. Brothers: John and Harry Bartch, Jr. Sisters: Mildred Klinestever and Anna Garver.

Lois G. Baltozer

Lois G. Baltozer, 92, of Silver Spring, passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at St. Anne's Retirement Community. She was the wife of the late George R. Baltozer, whom she married in 1952 and they bought and ran a dairy farm until their retirement. Lois was born in Conestoga, daughter of the late David H. (well known area antique collector) and Ethel Gantz Brubaker. She was raised on the family farm, outside of Conestoga, where she learned the value of hard work. Lois attended Green Hill United Methodist Church, where she learned about the Lord and accepted Jesus as her Savior. She was a faithful member of Word of Life Chapel, Bainbridge. Lois had a love of collecting/selling antiques, attending auctions, gardening, flowers, dogs and making items from old fabrics. She was an excellent seamstress, making her family clothing, drapes, chair covers as well as doing mending and repair work for others.

She is survived by her children: Larry (Sonia) Baltozer, Rohrerstown; Patti (Dave) Nace, Mountville; Terry Baltozer, Lancaster and Michael (Lisa) Baltozer, Silver Spring. Five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. One sister: Phyllis Ruit, Virginia. She was preceded in death by brothers: Warren and David G. Brubaker.

The Memorial Service will be held at Word of Life Chapel, 139 Wickersham Road, Bainbridge, PA 17502 on SATURDAY, JANUARY 13, 2024 at 3:00 P.M. with Pastor Aaron Spoonhour, officiating. Linda L. Rote

Linda L. Rote, 84, of Conestoga, passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at Lancaster General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Donald L. Rote, who passed away on October 12, 2014. Linda was born in Lancaster County, daughter of the late Robert and Laura Allen Stroud. She was a school bus driver for Shultz Transportation for 35 years before her retirement in 1997. 

She is survived by two daughters: Deborah L. (James) Colgrove, Conestoga and Donna L. Rote, Fort Payne, AL. Two sons: Robert M. (Leslie) Rote, Mocksville, NC and William S. (Sharon) Rote, Willow Street. One granddaughter: Nicole.

William T. Orem

William T. Orem, 86, of Lancaster, passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at Hamilton Arms Center. He was the husband of Diane M. Dinkel Orem with whom he celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on May 13, 2023. He was born in Lancaster, son of the late Samuel C. and Helen G. Hahn Orem. Bill was a Lab Technician for LASA for 25 years before his retirement and he enjoyed yard work.

 Surviving in addition to his wife, stepson: Scott D. Culp. Step granddaughter: Taylor Culp. He was preceded in death by stepdaughter: Angela M. Culp and a brother: Samuel C. Orem, Jr.

Robert Brubaker Noll

Robert Brubaker Noll, 103, of Rohrerstown, passed away peacefully and went home to be with his Lord and Savior after a brief illness, on Monday, December 11, 2023. He was the husband of the late Verna Widders Noll, his loving wife, who passed away in November of 1996. He was born in Rohrerstown, son of the late Earl Harnish Noll and Esther Brubaker Noll. Robert was a lifelong farmer who enjoyed hard work and the outdoors, until his retirement in 1986. From his birth, he was a lifelong member of Rohrerstown Mennonite Church and for 60 years, served as president of the Rohrerstown Mennonite Church Cemetery Board. He enjoyed numerous hobbies, such as welding and woodworking, resulting in the crafting of chairs, a coffee table, miniature rocking chairs and small prayer stools. One of his greatest accomplishments was making a 1/8 scale Conestoga covered wagon, very similar to the Conestoga freight wagon that he as a child saw his grandfather use for many years. Additionally, he enjoyed many years of deer hunting with numerous friends. Probably, one of his greatest joys in his life was flying his PA18 Piper Cub airplane, which he kept on his farm. He actively flew as a private pilot from age 27 until 93 1/2 years of age. Along with flying, he made countless friends as a member of the Pennsylvania and International Flying Farmers Association.

He is survived by two daughters and a son: Mary (Dennis) Lyday, Tucson, AZ; Alice (Daniel) Harder, Spartanburg, SC and Charles Robert (Darlene) Noll, Lancaster. Eight grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. One son-in-law: Joseph Mast, Lancaster. He was preceded in death by his eldest daughter: Nancy Louise Mast, his younger brother and sister: John B. Noll and Mary Jane Noll, who were twins, a younger brother: Kenneth B. Noll and his youngest brother: Donald B. Noll.

A Private Viewing will be held for the immediate family at the Workman Funeral Homes, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Mountville on Friday, December 15, 2023. A Private Interment will be held at Rohrerstown Mennonite Cemetery (Across from the LGH Health Campus). Grace M. English-Rohrer

Grace M. English-Rohrer, 60, of Lancaster, passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023 in an automobile accident in Penn Township on Route 322, alongside of her father Allen George English. She was the wife of Marc E. Rohrer to whom she was married for 17 years. She was born in Lock Haven, daughter of the late Allen G. and Barbara A. Bilger English. Grace was a graduate of Warwick High School and Edinboro University. She worked at QVC for 20 years, the last 14 as store manager and also worked at Jamesway, Roses and Ames. Grace was passionate for doing the Family Tree and genealogy. She enjoyed family vacations, visiting National Parks and historical sites. Grace also enjoyed Native American Culture, wolves, and her music which included John Mellencamp, Donny and Marie, Paul Anka and Garth Brooks. She adored her children and spending time with her family.  

“We’re simply meant to be,” is how Grace and Marc felt about their love for each other. 

Surviving in addition to her husband, her twins: Danielle B. Rohrer and Reilly A. Rohrer, at home. One brother: Thomas B. (Debra) English, Lititz and one sister: Allyn C. (Eric) Taylor, Lititz. Also many nieces and nephews.

Allen George English

Allen George English, 84, of Lititz, passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023 in Penn Township in a fiery, automobile crash on Route 322, along with his daughter, Grace M. English-Rohrer, who also perished in the crash.

 He was born in Erie, son of the late Clarence B. and Tinnie M. Mariska English. Tragically, his wife of 63 years Barbara A. Bilger English, passed away on August 16, 2023.

 Allen, also known as “George”, to his family and friends was also a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He proudly served in the US Air Force as an Air Traffic Controller for four years in Germany, France and Louisiana. His military service was a testament to his dedication and love for his country. Before retiring in the early 2000’s, he worked at a variety of places including American Paper Products Mill, CND Power Com, and as part of a road construction crew on the original “Goat Path” in 1975, which brought his family to Lancaster County. In his free time, Allen enjoyed hunting, spending time with his family, visiting casinos with his wife, being outdoors while mowing and clearing snow, cooking and simply enjoying life.

 Allen George English will always be remembered for his love for his family, his service to his country and his zest for life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. 

Allen is survived by his son: Thomas (Debra Gauker) English, Lititz. Son-in-law: Marc Rohrer, Lancaster. Daughter: Allyn (Eric) Taylor, Lititz. Allen was a grandfather to: Rory (Amanda Goft) English; Erin (Dane) Newbaker; Brian Irwin; Leeann Rhoads; Danielle and Reilly Rohrer and Brody and Luke Taylor. He leaves behind great-grandchildren: Brody and Logan Irwin; Lilly and Connor Rhoads; Elliott English and Emma and Colt Newbaker. Brother: Thomas (Mary) English, Phoenix, AZ. Allen was preceded in death by brothers: Don, Buzz and Mick. Also one sister: Lucille. 

Per Allen’s wishes, no funeral or memorial service are planned. Janet M. Wissler

Janet M. Wissler, 91, of Silver Spring, passed away peacefully to her heavenly home on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 in the comfort of her home. She was born in Lancaster, daughter of the late John and Ann Brooks Plaskey. She was a production worker for Amp, Inc. before her retirement.

She is survived by one daughter: Denise M. Shearer, Silver Spring and one son: Randy D. (Debra A.) Wissler, Silver Spring. Four grandchildren: Stacy Herr, Travis Shearer, Nathan Wissler and Alex Wissler. Three great-grandchildren.

The Graveside Service and Burial will be held at Silver Spring Cemetery on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. Raymond A. Miller, 77, of Mountville, passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023 at Lancaster General Hospital. He was the husband of Lynnette R. Bogart Miller with whom he celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on November 21, 2023. Ray was born in Philadelphia, son of the late Joseph and Margaret Law Miller. Ray loved driving truck all of his life and was a driver for Flexsteel for forty years before retiring in 2014. He also worked for Penske truck leasing for nine years. Ray was a Veteran of the US Army serving during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a member of the Lancaster County Folk Music and Fiddlers Society; the Lancaster Fencibles and was a Civil War Reenactor. He enjoyed woodworking, baking and riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle.   

Surviving in addition to his wife, one daughter: Andrea Miller (W. Mark) Amey, Lancaster. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by one brother: Joseph “Bud” Miller. One sister: Anna Marie McCarthy. One nephew: Joey Miller. 

The Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Workman Funeral Homes, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Mountville, on SUNDAY, JANUARY 14, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 P.M. Janet L. Coller

Janet L. Coller, 88, of Lancaster, passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at home. She was the wife of the late Israel Dellen and William W. Coller. She was born in Manor Township, daughter of the late C. Fred and Helen A. Ortman Frey. Janet was a ticket merchant for Carter Company, Leola. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Columbia. She wrote poetry, which was published in books. Janet enjoyed reading, gardening, feeding cats and her doll collections. She loved, enjoyed and dedicated her life to her dogs. 

 She is survived by one daughter: Darlene M. (companion: Andre Torres) Kirchner, Ephrata. One son: Charles W. Coller, Exton. Two grandsons and six granddaughters. Ten great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by one son: Gary Dellen, one granddaughter and thirteen siblings.

George James Rought

George James Rought, 80, of East Hempfield Township, passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2023. He was born in East Lemon, PA, son of the late Van C. and Margaret L. McConnell Rought. He was a Veteran of the US Marine Corps and a jack of all trades. George owned his own roofing business and attended Lackawanna High School. 

George had a great sense of humor and was a very caring and compassionate guy who loved spending time with his family. 

He is survived by one daughter: Joyce A. (William D.) Guffey, Taylor, PA. Two grandchildren: Jesse and Nicholas. Four great-grandchildren. One brother: Daniel Rought, Scranton. Two sisters: Ann Marie (John) Gowarty, Scranton and Edith (William) McWatters, Evans, GA. Also numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Carol Giorgio, Charles Rought, Eleanor Brown, Lois North, William Rought and Margaret Jones. 

The Private Service will be held with interment in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery. Please omit flowers. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to: the George J.
