Betty Jane Herr, 90, passed from life on this earth to her heavenly reward on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Landis Homes. She was the wife of the late Roy D. Herr whom she married on October 17, 1956. She was born in Conestoga Township, daughter of the late Daniel and Esther Leaman Shenk. Betty grew up in Lancaster County, the third of eleven children.
In 1963, they moved to Maryland to support a new mission church. Once all of her children were in school, she worked in the school cafeteria in Montgomery County Schools in Maryland, until her retirement. She often had requests from staff for her beautifully crafted salads. She was well known in the community for her seamstress skills, and delicious cooking and baking, especially bread and donuts.
Roy and Betty returned to Lancaster County in 2009, where they enjoyed their retirement at Landis Homes. Her church community was a central part of her life, as well as her personal faith. She dedicated a time of prayer for family and friends daily. She was a member of East Petersburg Mennonite Church.
She is survived by four children: James (Carol) Herr, Mountville; Richard (Terri) Herr, Waxhaw, NC; Donna (Gary) Yoder, Kalona, IA; and Bonita (Lowell) Miller, Sellersville. Ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, as well as four siblings and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by six siblings.
