Vivian J. Walter

Vivian J. Walter, 92, of Brereton Manor, Washington Boro, formerly of Manheim, passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2020. She was the wife of the late John N. Walter, who passed away in 2008. She was born in Lancaster, daughter of the late Christian and Myrtle Kuhn Hershey. Vivian worked at Hamilton Watch and also as a nurse's aide at Brethren Village before her retirement. She was a member of Lakeview Bible Church and enjoyed bowling, hiking, crossword puzzles, flowers, gardening, watching game shows, road trips to the mountains, playing piano and loved Southern Gospel Music. Vivian was a great example for her family as to what a mother should be and loved her Lord and Savior and reading the Bible. She loved her family unconditionally all of her life and was concerned for them and others before herself. She taught them the great value of family and loved them, her siblings and all extended family. As she got older, she lost friends, but made new ones. She also loved the staff at Brereton Manor and had an infectious laugh. Vivian was and always will be near and dear to the hearts of her family, until one day seeing her again!

She is survived by two daughters: Ginger D. (Steven H.) Kelshaw, Mountville and Rebecca L. (Gerald L.) Boll, Manheim. Five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Four sisters: her twin, Dorothy (Edward) Longenecker, Lancaster; Doris Hershey, Lititz; Beverly Geib, East Petersburg; and Donna Wagaman, Columbia. She was preceded in death by three brothers: Lloyd, Richard and John Hershey.

Fidencio "Papo" Perales

Fidencio "Papo" Perales, 80, of Mountville, passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2020. He was the husband of Rev. Emerita Rodriguez Perales. He was born in Patillas, Puerto Rico, son of the late Eustaquio and Adelaida Rosario Perales. Papo was a member of Assembly of Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ Emanuel, Columbia. He was a hard working, selfless person who enjoyed playing the acoustic guitar, gardening, driving the church van, putting people first, (not himself), and was devoted to spending time with his family.

Surviving in addition to his wife, ten children: Elizabeth De Jesus; David Perales; Enid Perales; Abigail Perales; Loyda Perales; Mary Grubb; Iveliss Perez; Ivette P. Cruzado; Luz Perales; and Abdiel Perales. 23 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Two brothers and four sisters. He was preceded in death by one son: Neftaly Perales and two sisters.

Rosemary "Snookie" Pennell

Rosemary "Snookie" Pennell, 92, a lifelong resident of Columbia, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 17, 2020. She was the wife of the late Eugene R. Pennell for 29 years before he passed away in 1979. She was born in Columbia, daughter of the late Harry A. and Anna Mae Resch Aston. Rosemary graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in 1946 and St. Joseph School of Nursing in 1949. She was employed as an office nurse for Dr. David Weinberg for 20 years. She then worked as a third shift nurse for ITT Grinnell Corp for 26 years before retiring in 1994. She was a devout, lifelong member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Altar Rosary Society. Snookie was also a member of the Grinnell Retirement Club and was a member and past secretary of AARP, Columbia Chapter. After her retirement she was a "Holy Roller" during Fastnacht Season. She enjoyed working at the election polls in Columbia for many years and was an avid reader, having been a member Emeritus of the Mountwaybia book club. One of her passions was giving friends a tour of her South Second Street home at Christmas and proudly showing her 11 foot Christmas tree. Snookie enjoyed traveling, spending time with her family and in her earlier years, she enjoyed spending summers at the family cabin, on an island in the Susquehanna River.

She is survived by two sons: Steven (Sharon) Pennell, Wrightsville and Michael (Toni) Pennell, Pawley's Island, SC. One daughter-in-law: Tina Pennell Ness, Columbia. Ten grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sons: Brian, Keith and Galen Pennell.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 409 Cherry St., Columbia on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Stephen P. Kelley, as Celebrant. Susan M. Wile

Susan M. Wile, Columbia, formerly of Mountville, passed into the arms of her Lord on Sunday, December 13, 2020 at Lancaster General Hospital, after a brief illness. Sue loved her family; her daughters were her world. She made sure to always put her family first. Her grand and great-grandchildren gave her great joy. Sue loved the sound of the ocean, feeling the bay breeze and vacationing at Stone Harbor, NJ. Sue was a homemaker for many years and worked at Whallons, Shorty Macks, Gramps and retired from Interiors Home. She was a member of St John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Columbia.

Sue is survived by her husband of 60 years, Kenneth E Wile. Her daughters: Tami (Mark) Lantz, Lancaster; Tracy (Don) Arndt, Columbia; Michelle (Steve) Harnish, Murfreesboro, TN; and Kimberly (Dominick) Plastino, Anitoch, TN. Also surviving are seven grandchildren

and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, mother and two brothers.

Robert B. Brown

Robert B. Brown, 90, of Lancaster, passed away on Tuesday, December 8, 2020. He was the husband of Jean Brown, with whom he celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on July 20, 2020. He was born in Florin, son of the late Harry and Mary Bowser Brown. Bob was a boring mill operator for DeWalt Saws for 32 years and was also an inspector for Dana Corp. for 10 years before his retirement in 1995. He was a lifelong member of Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ. Bob was a member of the Mountville Lions Club, having received the Melvin Jones Fellowship and was veteran of the US Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was also a member of the Columbia Lodge #286 F&AM. Bob enjoyed traveling in his RV; Blue Grass Festivals; Hank Williams, Sr. music; going to Pequea Silver Mines; reading; his annual trip to the Mardi Gras; Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers football and his Jack Russell Terrier, "Buddy" his faithful companion.

Surviving in addition to his wife, one daughter: Robyn L. (Dave R.) Graham, Columbia. One grandson: David R. Graham. Also, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother: Roy Brown. Two sisters: Grace Slick and Anna Mae Landis.

SFC Zoe Mary Figueroa

SFC Zoe Mary Figueroa, 65, of Mountville, passed away on Friday, November 27, 2020 at home. She was born in Bethlehem and was a graduate of Freedom High School, Millersville University in 1980 and was an LPN for more than 30 years. Zoe was a Sergeant First Class serving in the US Army for more than 30 years. She enjoyed baking, crocheting, and reading, especially James Patterson books. Zoe loved helping others.

She is survived by one daughter: Mia (Philip M., Sr.) White. Three grandchildren: Philip M. White, Jr., Alyssia P. White and Riley M. White. Three brothers: Joseph Figueroa, Efrain Figueroa and Joseph Brignoni. Three sisters: Milagro Figueroa, Andrea Wooden and Yvette Higgins

Bertha M. "Bertie" Eshleman

Bertha M. "Bertie" Eshleman, 93, of St. Anne's Retirement Community, passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Lancaster General Hospital. She was the wife of the late John M. Eshleman, who passed away on January 17, 2013. She was born in Manor Township, daughter of the late Jacob E. and Mary Strickler Frey. Bertie was a member of Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church of Creswell where she was a Sunday school teacher in the Primary Department for over 40 years. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and taking care of her family. She attended Central Manor Camp Meeting for many years. She and her husband also visited homebound parishioners that could no longer attend church. Bertie was the last of her immediate family.

She is survived by her children: J. Robert (Sandy) Eshleman, Manheim; Barbara A. (Charles) Blake, Stone Harbor, NJ; Beverly S. (Robert) Bitner, Mountville and Lynn (Larry) Miller, Millersville. Fifteen grandchildren and more than 30 great and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.

Michael E. Dilloway

Michael E. Dilloway, 78, of Mountville passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy, surrounded by his wife and daughters. Mike was born in Burlington, VT son of the late Raymond and Lena Welcome Dilloway. He grew up with his brothers, David and James Dilloway, who preceded him in death. Upon graduating from high school, Mike served in the United States Army National Guard for over seven years and retired as a Sergeant in the Aviation Company 50th Armored Division. He learned the trade of drafting and also worked as an air traffic controller. He then married Lorraine Roy and they had two daughters. They enjoyed family camping, skiing and ice fishing. When Lorraine passed away in 1973, Mike became a single dad. He attended Champlain College in Burlington, and there he met JoAnn Farnham whom he married in 1974. She became a devoted wife and mother, and took great pride in Mike’s daughters, eventually adopting them as her own. Mike’s professional career was varied and lengthy. He started as a draftsman and eventually retired from Hershey Chocolate after 18 years as a lead project designer. He was part of the team that redesigned the Hershey Kiss line to create a smoother and more efficient production process. Mike was a motorcycle and muscle car enthusiast who enjoyed rebuilding motors, doing body work, and displaying his cars at auto shows. Having been a sharp shooter in the military, he enjoyed target shooting and reloading ammunition in his later years. As an avid lover of WWII history, Mike enjoyed watching black and white war movies and joined the Commemorative Air Force which preserves American military aviation history through education, flying, and exhibition of WWII aircraft. In his later years he became involved in Rock Steady Boxing as a way to manage symptoms of Parkinson’s and Lewy body dementia and was well loved by his peers and staff for his fiery spirit and physical strength. Mike had a keen interest in studying the Bible, and attended Grace Baptist Church. He was known as a man with a kind and gentle spirit who loved and prayed for his family. He also had an affinity for cats and dogs, and is survived by his dachshund, Hunter. He was preceded in death by his beloved pets Jake, Sarah, and Harley. Mike also enjoyed his time as a hospice volunteer and belonged to the Columbia Fish & Game Association. Mike had a sharp and witty sense of humor who, up until days of his passing, made his family laugh with his one-liners.

Mike is survived by his wife of 46 years, JoAnn F. Dilloway, and daughters, Karen Good and Judi Miller wife of Steve Miller; eight grandchildren; and three great grandchildren, with three on the way.

Diane Dennis Eidemiller, 70, of East Petersburg, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 1, 2020, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Jerry K. Eidemiller. Diane was born in Lancaster, daughter of the late Robert V. and Imogene Dennis Hartman.

Surviving in addition to her husband, one daughter: Nicole Leigh Eidemiller, companion of Frederick F. Riccelli, III. One son: Brandon Dennis Eidemiller. One granddaughter: Leah Gene Eidemiller. And her beloved therapy cat: Toby Green Bean. Two nephews: Kalen and Evan Strandberg. She was preceded in death by two sisters: Carol Anne Strandberg and her twin sister: Linda Gene Waltman.

Dollie I. Millhouse, 93, formerly of Mountville, passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Luther Acres. She was the wife of the late Charles W. Millhouse, who passed away in 2001. She was born in Cordova, AL daughter of the late Huie Lee and Bessie Sargent Ingram. Dollie was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening and had a remarkable "green thumb"; and also enjoyed watching and feeding the birds.

She is survived by one son: James D. Millhouse, West Lampeter Twp. One daughter: Peggy A. (Fred) Suydam, Mount Joy. One granddaughter: Michele L. (Andrew) Trostle, Mount Joy. Two great-grandchildren: Katie (Bret) Hartman, Lititz; and Matt Trostle, Mountville. One sister: Elizabeth Borden, Cordova, AL. She was preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters.

Cletus F. Kemmick

Cletus F. Kemmick, 88, lifelong resident of Columbia, passed away on Wednesday, November 25, 2020. He was the husband of the late Janet A. Kemmick. He was born in Columbia, son of the late Fred C. and Minnie Siegrist Kemmick. Cletus owned Kemmick Gun Shop for many years before his retirement in 1993 and was a Veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Red Rose Memorial VFW Post #2435; the Columbia Fish & Game Association; and the Mosquito Creek Sportsmen's Club, Frenchville. He enjoyed going to the cabin in Clearfield, reloading shells, and coin collecting.

He is survived by his children: Cletus F. Kemmick, Jr., Columbia; Sue (Bob) Rhone, Bainbridge; Deb (Tom) Jackson, Columbia; and Nancy (Eugene) Henry, Mountville. Six grandchildren: Amy, Molly, Kenneth E., III, Craig, Barry, and Donald. Six great-grandchildren. Siblings: Dorothy, June, Dennis, and Daniel. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Donald, Pearl, Jean, and Jane.

Andrew C. Campbell, 86, of Lancaster, formerly of Agawam, MA, died peacefully at home on Friday, November 20, 2020. He was the husband of the late Carolyn M. Campbell, who passed away on November 29, 2014. He was born in Copake, NY, son of the late Royal V. and Kathryn Alback Campbell. A successful businessman, Andrew owned Campbell Management Company, consulting in family matters and risk management. He was a member of St. Edward's Episcopal Church, Lancaster. He was a proud veteran of the US Navy, serving during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Hempfield Rec Club.

He is survived by one son: Andrew J. (Sandra) Campbell, Cromwell, CT. Two daughters: Kathryn T. Campbell (James Crowley), Oakton, VA and Deborah M. Campbell and partner Bruce Collamore, Newbury, NH. Three grandchildren: Julia Crowley; Kyle Crowley; and Erica Campbell. Andrew was preceded in death by four brothers: Clifford, Donald, Calvin, and Royal B. Campbell. Three sisters: Helen Silvernail, Elsie Stockman and Isabel Schad.

Cheryl M. Cook, 68, of Wrightsville, passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at home. She was born in Columbia and grew up in Silver Spring, daughter of the late Joseph F. and Helen Harshberger Fischer. She was a finesse technician for Harley Davidson for 18 years before her retirement in 2007. She was a member of Landis Valley Christian Fellowship Church. Cheryl enjoyed cooking, family gatherings with Christmas being her favorite time of the year and she also enjoyed NASCAR, with Kyle Petty being her favorite driver.

She is survived by her loving partner of 20 years, Joseph Hake, Wrightsville. Her children: twins, Renee M. Campbell, Columbia; Renate M. Burnham, York; Rochelle L. (Thomas E.) Gruber, Ephrata; Jennifer A. (Rick) Shirk, Strasburg; James A. Cook, II, Landisville and Alisha Hake, Pittston. Eight grandchildren. Six great-grandchildren. Siblings: Joseph (Terri) Fischer, Quarryville; Linda Brenneman, Mount Joy; Dennis (Joy) Fischer, Pequea; Pamela Fischer, Columbia; David (Deanna) Fischer, Marietta and Mark Fischer, Columbia. She was preceded in death by one grandson: Anthony.

Ronald G. Riley

Ronald G. Riley, 87, of Lancaster, passed away on Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at home. He was the husband of Marie-Therese F. Gosset Riley with whom he was married for 65 years on July 13, 2020. He was born in Long Island, NY son of the late George and Hazel Bohnet Riley. Ron was a member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church and retired from the US Air Force after 28 years where he had been a special investigator. He also worked for the Veterans Administration for 14 years and the FBI conducting background searches. Ron was a driver for Royer's Flowers and was also a driver for veterans transporting them from Lancaster to Lebanon. He also enjoyed golfing.

Surviving in addition to his wife, four daughters: Christine M. (Theodore) Vulgaris, Manor Twp., Cathy A. (Stephen) Bomberger, Manheim, Martine C. (Jules) Bacon, York, and Theresa L. (Theodore) Keagy, Elizabethtown. Ten grandchildren: Jessica, Julie, Kayla, Jamie, Theodore, Lauren, Tyler, Marcelle, Alexander and Andrew. Eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters.

Mary E. Germer

Mary E. Germer, 70, of Columbia, passed away on Monday, November 9, 2020 following a motor vehicle accident. She was born in Ypsilanti, MI, daughter of the late John W., Jr. and Ella Helwig Moore Crawford. She worked as a machine operator at R&S Manufacturing and also at Goodwill Industries before her retirement. Mary enjoyed horseback riding, and her dogs: Gretta and Sam.

She is survived by her two sons: Byron J. (Angela R.) Germer and John B. Germer, all of Columbia. Six grandchildren: Byron J.F., Kaitlyn, Brittany, Zachary, Tyler, and Meaghan. Four great-grandchildren. One brother: John W. Crawford, III, Columbia. One sister: Ann (George) Bowman, Paxtang.

George Franklin Reitz

George Franklin Reitz, 86, passed from this life on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 in Elizabethtown. George was born in Snydertown to the late Elwood Franklin Reitz and Isabel Smith Reitz. George loved to share memories of his childhood adventures ranging from delivering papers when World War II broke out, to playing ball in fields now covered by main highways. George held many jobs, including hauling mail for his father, before he joined the US Navy, where he was an electronics technician. In June of 1959, George married the love of his life, Nancy Ann Hursh. They had two children, a daughter Tammy and son Mark. George, a man of many talents, built the first house he, Nancy and their children lived in, in Hellam. In the early 1960’s, George moved the family to Virginia, to begin his work with the federal government’s US Army Map Service. George traveled the globe often to secret locations, leaving the family for months at a time, to fulfill his service to his country. Later, George worked for the FAA for many years in the tower at Dulles International Airport and then at the FAA facility, in Leesburg. When George retired from the FAA he was able to devote time to his favorite hobby, Ham Radio. His call number was WW4GR. He spent many hours communicating with folks around the world. George also became a fine picture framer, offering his services to locals. He was also a long-time Free and Accepted Mason and member of the Olive Branch Lodge in Leesburg. When Nancy was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, George became her full-time caregiver, which allowed him to engage in another of his hobbies, cooking. PopPop’s creations, including pizzas and breads, were enjoyed by all. In 2014, both George and Nancy moved to the Masonic Village, although in separate residences due to the care Nancy required. George would take the shuttle bus almost daily to visit Nancy across campus (or “base” as he often referred to it due to his military background). They eventually lived in the same building, which made visiting a little easier. George could converse with anyone and always had a dimpled smile to share. He enjoyed engaging with family, friends, and strangers alike. He was kind and loving until his last breath.

He is survived by his loving family, including daughter: Tammy Reitz Greene (Stilson), Hamilton, VA. Son: Mark Franklin Reitz (Judy), New Bern, NC. Grandchildren: Brandy R. Gerwig (Nathan), Red Lion; Morgan G. McLellan (Sean), Hamilton, VA; Michael Reitz (Sabrina Faircloth), Shepherdstown, WV; Paige Reitz, Leesburg, VA; Cortni Reitz, Leesburg, VA; and Glen Reitz, Tucson, AZ. Great-grandchildren: Sarina Gerwig, Trey McDowell, and Addilynn Reitz. George was preceded in death by his wife: Nancy; his parents and his sister: Nancy Fisher.

Helen W. Greene

Helen W. Greene, 86, of Columbia, PA, passed away on Wednesday November 04, 2020. She was the 13th of 13 children and daughter of the late Chester M. and Marie (Green) Hess. Helen was the wife of the late Douglass Greene and had previously been married to the late Richard L. Keck. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Columbia and was a graduate of Columbia High School, Class of 1952. Upon graduation, Helen began her impressive career within Civilian Army Logistics activities in the Eastern and Western USA and Korea. Her duty assignments began at Marietta Transportation Corps Depot, Middletown Air Material Area, U.S. Army’s Mutual Security Directorate, Logistics Control Office-Atlantic Division and the Catalog Data Center, all at Marietta, Middletown and New Cumberland, PA. They continued at the U.S. Army Logistics Center of Fort Lee, VA, Headquarters 6th Support Center in Taegu Korea, Headquarters Department of the Army Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics in Washington DC, U.S. Army Logistics Evaluation Agency in New Cumberland and at Sharpe Army Depot, and finally the Department of Defense Western Division Deputy Director of Distribution at Sharpe in Lathrop, CA. She graduated from the Defense Inventory Management Development Course. She retired from her Federal civilian career after 32 years and was employed three more years within the private sector.

Within her large immediate and extended family, she was known to have a very generous heart and personally helped many at their time of need. She adored and spoiled her beloved kitty cat, Joey. Throughout her long life, she spent many, many weekends at Long Level having fun with family, eating, boating, jet skiing and water skiing. Even as recently as 2019, at age 85, she spent a full day with her Kise great-grandchildren riding all the roller coasters and enjoying the Wave Pool on a very hot day at Hershey Park.

She is survived by her daughter, Glenda (Samuel) Gatchell, and a son, Brian (Michele) Keck. She was the very proud grandmother of Joel (Theresa) Kise, Joshua (Michelle) Kise, Todd Gatchell (deceased), Kevin (Juliana) Luttman and Allison Luttman, and much loved great-grandchildren, Milana, Landon and Shaylyn Kise and Carson Luttman. Surviving also is her sister, Patsy Kline and many nieces and nephews. Her Greene family descendants include step-daughters, Carol Lombardo and Beth Greene, step-sons, Douglass and Kevin (Linda) Greene. The Greene grandchildren include Katherine Greene, Renee Greene, Rachel (Ray) Lake and Joseph Greene, Nicholas (Brandi) Lombardo and Christopher (Tashana) Lombardo. Greene great-grandchildren are Joseph Lombardo, Emma Johnson, Riley, Aiden and Luke Lombardo, Skylar and Fox Greene, Ryder and Reagan Lake. Helen was preceded in death by one daughter, Sharon Greene and eleven brothers and sisters.

The Graveside Service and Burial will be held at St. Peter Catholic Cemetery on TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 17, 2020 at 1:00 P.M. Please omit flowers. Niko Alexander Costales, infant son of Abimael Costales Morales and Keren Rivera Costales, West Hempfield Township, passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at Women's and Babies Hospital.

He is survived by his siblings: Anjali, Aliza and Adriel Costales. Paternal grandparents: Ismael Costales and Enid Morales. Maternal grandparents: Jaime Rivera and Kere Rivera. Maternal step-grandmother: Angela Rivera.
