Lois R. Wilson

Lois R. Wilson, 81, of Lancaster, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. She was the wife of the late Harold B. Wilson. Lois was born in Lancaster County, daughter of the late Andrew W. and Ada E. Geib Erb. She was a homemaker and enjoyed her family.

She is survived by four sons and three daughters. Eight grandchildren and one great-grandson. Also, two sisters. She was preceded in death by six siblings.

Robert A. Griffith

Robert A. Griffith, 87, of Mountville, passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at home. He was the husband of the late Sonia A. Griffith who passed away on November 21, 2022. Bob was born in Lancaster, son of the late Harold T. and Almeda Brackbill Griffith. He was a tool and die maker/machinist, having owned his own machine shop. Bob was a Veteran of the US Navy and enjoyed kayaking.

 He is survived by one daughter: Kimberly G. (Steve) Brown, Jasper, GA. Three grandchildren: Kristen (Justin) Deese, Navarre, FL; Dustin Brown (Jenny Wilson), Jasper, GA and Daniel (Olivia) Brown, Canton, GA. Six great-grandchildren. One sister: Phyllis Tortora, New York. He was preceded in death by one son: David A. Griffith.

Fay Eshleman

Fay Eshleman, 92, of Central Manor, passed away on Monday, March 6, 2023 at St. Anne’s Retirement Community. She was the wife of the late James L. Eshleman to whom she was married for 67 years before he passed away in 2020. She was born in Quentin, daughter of the late Norman C. and Rhoda P. Martin Sheckart. Fay was an office worker for Columbia Malleable Company before her retirement. She was a member of Washington Boro Church of God and enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning and the weekly Sunday evening gatherings with her family.

She is survived by one daughter: Darlene, wife of Bob Sands, Lancaster and one son: Tim, husband of Pam (Goss) Eshleman, Millersville. Five grandchildren: Olivia (Darrick) Buswell; Joe (Mandy) Sands; Atlee (Adrienne) Eshleman; Keith (Kayla) Eshleman and Andrew Eshleman. Nine great-grandchildren: Carson, Landon and Dillon Sands; Kelsey and Evan Buswell; Leah, Luke, Levi and Barrett Eshleman. She was preceded in death by one daughter: Deborah (wife of Donald Bogart). Two brothers: Norman C. Sheckart, Jr. and Gerald Sheckart.

Doris J. Floyd

Doris Jeanette Bitner Floyd, 85, of St. Anne's Retirement Community went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 5, 2023. She was "the love of my life" to Carl E. Floyd with whom she celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on September 14, 2022. Doris was born in Millersville, daughter of the late Harold and Ruth Walk Bitner. She was a homemaker, who dearly loved her family and faithfully prayed for them. She graduated from Penn Manor High School, Class of 1955 and worked at the former Conestoga National Bank, Lancaster until starting their family. Doris enjoyed being a wife, mother, grandma, great-grandmother and homemaker, and had an avid interest in family history, which she shared with Dale. She was a member of Word of Life Chapel, Bainbridge, enjoyed flowers and was a life-long Phillies fan. She and Carl were fans of Southern Gospel music and attended many local concerts over the years. She will be remembered and missed by many.

Surviving in addition to her husband, one daughter: Donna, married to Bob Wiggins, Conestoga and one son: Dale, married to Peg Floyd, Mount Joy. Grandchildren: Matt Wiggins, Amy Wiggins Livengood, Ben Floyd and Kim Floyd. Great-grandchildren: Hailey, Calley, Noah, Bree and Eden who will all miss "Grammy." Siblings: Wesley (Arlene) Bitner; Glenn (Joyce) Bitner and Phyllis (the late Dave) Hornbaker.

Donald E. Braungard

Donald E. Braungard, 90, of Lancaster, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2023 at home. He was the husband of Patricia A. Wallace Braungard to whom he was married for more than 66 years. He was born in Lancaster, son of the late Andrew E. and Grace A. Braungard. Don was a supervisor in Customer Accounting for UGI Lancaster Division for 43 years. He attended Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ, Mountville and enjoyed golfing, bowling, cars, reading, doing word puzzles and collecting pens.

Aita Kumari Gurung

Aita Kumari Gurung, 59, of Lancaster Township, passed away at home on Wednesday, February 22, 2023. She was the wife of the late Tula Ram Gurung who passed away on May 4, 2004. She was born in Mele, Sarpang Bhutan, daughter of Mon Maya Gurung and the late Mon Bahadur Gurung. Aita was a restaurant owner in Bhutan and was a member of the Bhutanese Nepali Church, Lancaster. Her hobbies included gardening, with tulips being her favorite flower, hosting dinner parties and collecting butterflies.

 She is survived by her children: son Gunja Gurung; daughter: Som Gurung (husband, Padam Gurung); daughter: Sita G. Rai (husband, Binod Rai); son: Ram Gurung; daughter: Lachi Gurung (husband, Badal Pradhan); son: Subash Gurung (wife, Pranita Gurung) and daughter: Vima Gurung (husband, Bikash Khadka. Six grandchildren (4 grandsons and 2 granddaughters). Eleven siblings (8 sisters and 2 brothers).

 The Funeral Service will be held at Mellinger Mennonite Church, 1916 Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Deepak Rai, officiating. Charles R. "Bud" Heim

Charles R. "Bud" Heim, 88, a lifelong resident of Columbia, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Monday, February 13, 2023, at Lancaster General Hospital. He was the husband of Barbara E. Barnett Heim with whom he would have celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on June 8, 2023. He was born in Columbia, son of the late Charles L. and Dora L. Brommer Heim. Bud was a purchasing agent, having worked for Bendix Corporation for thirteen and a half years and Modi Printing for 20 years. He was a graduate of Columbia High School, Class of 1952. Bud attended Columbia United Methodist Church and was a Veteran of the US Navy, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a local historian for Columbia and the surrounding areas who enjoyed trains, was a member of the Lancaster Post Card Club and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Surviving in addition to his wife, one daughter: Michelle A. (John) Wolf. Two sons: Mitchell B. (Kyleann) Heim and Michael C. (Wendy) Heim. Three grandchildren: Ashley (Terry) Spangenburg, Clayton C. Blevins and Blair T. Heim. Three great-grandchildren: Nathan, Emma and Benjamin. One brother: Wayne F. Heim. Several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother: Luther Heim.

The Memorial Service will be held at Columbia United Methodist Church, 510 Walnut Street, Columbia, PA 17512 on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Tom Grubbs, officiating. William J. Ashley

William J. Ashley, 65, of Lancaster, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Lancaster General Hospital. He was the husband of Paulette Murray Ashley to whom he was married for 36 years. He was born in Lancaster, son of the late Fred William and Irene Reedy Ashley. William was a truck driver and enjoyed his family, his dogs, the outdoors, music, old cars, the Pittsburgh Steelers and was a very funny man who could put a smile on anyone's face.

Surviving in addition to his wife, one daughter: Corrie A. Fridinger and one son: James D. Ashley. Two grandchildren. Two brothers: Jerry (Betsy) Ashley and Roger (Shari) Ashley. One sister: Janet (Pete) Dinsmore.

Riley Stephen Erb

Riley Stephen Erb, 21, of Lancaster, passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2023 at home. Riley was born in Lancaster, the much loved son of Gay McKain Erb and the late R. Stephen Erb who preceded him in death in 2010. He grew up in Mount Joy and attended Donegal and later Penn Manor schools and was adored by his nieces and nephews and enjoyed trips to the beach with his family. Riley loved to spend his free time playing video games with his best friends and cooking new dinners with his mom. He also adored his furry feline friend, Fluff.

Surviving in addition to his mother, his siblings: Rockie Hilburn, Abbie Hilburn (fiance': Jeff Cwiertniewicz), Emilie Erb (fiance': Jaedyn Rush). Grandparents: Kathy and Robert Sullivan and grandfather: Luther Barrett, Jr. Seven nieces and nephews: Trinity, McKenzie, Aubree, Gavyn, Xander, Maizlee and Maddie. Also many cousins, aunts, uncles and friends who will forever miss him. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: George and Marilyn McKain.

A million times, I'll need you; a million times I'll cry, if love alone could save you, you would never have to die. In life I've loved you dearly, in death I love you still, in my heart you hold a place that no one will ever fill. Carolyn M. Blumenschein

Carolyn M. Blumenschein, 90, of Columbia, passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2023 at Lancaster Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Richard G. Blumenschein, who passed away in 2007. She was born in Columbia, daughter of the late William and Minerva Criswell Witmer. She did clerical work for Kahn-Lucas Manufacturing before her retirement. Carolyn attended the Worship Center and enjoyed spending time with her family, playing Bingo and going to the casinos.

She is survived by one son: Brian L. (Suzanne) Blumenschein, Mount Joy. One daughter: Suzanne C. (Dean) Vitatoe, Lancaster. Three grandchildren: John Ruth, Erika Vitatoe and Zachary Vitatoe. Two great-grandchildren: Roman and Draven Ruth. She was preceded in death by three brothers: Herbert, William and James Witmer.

Cole R. Brandt

Cole R. Brandt, 9, of Lititz, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2023. He was born in Lancaster, son of Tyler R. and Nicole R. Brandt. Cole was in the third grade at John R. Bonfield Elementary School and enjoyed building with blocks, Legos, trains, camping, rock collecting and playing with his sister.

Donald B. Noll

Donald B. Noll, 84, of Mountville, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 11, 2023. He was born in Lancaster, son of the late Earl H. and Esther Brubaker Noll. Don was the husband of Shirley (Heisey) Noll for 66 years. 

Don was baptized in the Mennonite faith and enjoyed gardening, metal and wood working and anything to do with cars. He operated his farm in West Hempfield Township and later worked at Burnham Corporation for 13 years and retired from Fulton Bank in the Property Management Department, after 15 years of service. 

Surviving in addition to his wife, his daughter: Amy (Noll) Leaman wife of Randall, and his son: Jeffrey Noll and his companion: Lisa Kurenda. Three grandchildren: Matthew Leaman, Nathan Leaman and his significant other: Lindsey McCurdy and Lindsey (Leaman) Sullivan wife of Zachary. Six great-grandchildren: Haley, Justin, Oliver, Ellie, Madison and Maggie. One brother: Robert Noll. He was preceded in death by siblings: John Noll, Kenneth Noll and Mary Jane Noll.

Judy Ann Callaway

Judy Ann Callaway, 66, a longtime resident of Columbia, passed away peacefully, at home on Friday, February 10, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Mildred Baker. Judy will always be remembered for her opinionated and spunky personality. She was an incredible artist who enjoyed drawing, arts and crafts, sewing and gardening.

She will be missed by many, including her son: Troy (Tania M.) Callaway, Lancaster and her daughter: Taylor Callaway. Her longtime companion: Craig W. Flinchbaugh, Columbia and her longtime caregiver: Tiffany Weire-Bianco.

Cheryl A. LaBow

Cheryl A. LaBow, 69, of Mountville, passed away on Monday, February 6, 2023, at home. She was the wife of the late Michael H. LaBow who passed away on January 9, 2017. She was born in Lancaster, daughter of the late James R. and Pauline R. Birk Zerphy. She was a lab secretary at Lancaster General Hospital for 50 years before her retirement in 2017. Cheryl loved animals.

She is survived by two sons: Alan J. (Rose) Licht and Keith R. (Isabela) Licht. Three grandchildren: Connor, Maya and Nadia. Two stepsons: Craig LaBow and Chris LaBow. One stepdaughter: Chelsea Murphy. Five step-grandchildren. Three sisters: Dawn Murr, Tam Zerphy and Kathy Bachman. She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Margaret Thorsen

Margaret Thorsen, 92, of Lancaster, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at the Mennonite Home. She was the wife of the late Raymond Thorsen. Margaret was born in Bronx, NY, daughter of the late Robert and Mary Radone Villiger. She worked as an administrative assistant for construction companies. She was a member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, a member of the Hempfield Rec Club, and volunteered at Hempfield School District helping with Art Classes. Margaret and her husband were avid golfers and she enjoyed traveling, gardening, walking and going to Stone Harbor every Summer with her family. 

She is survived by two sons: Richard P. (Sharon) Thorsen, Monroe, NY and John M. (Tracie) Thorsen, Lancaster. Seven grandchildren: Tyler (Amanda); Christine (Adam); Eric; Vicki (Nate); Katie (Daniel) and John Raymond. One great-grandson: John Robert Beals. One sister: Roberta Villiger, Washington, NJ. She was preceded in death by one son: Robert S. Thorsen and one sister: Lillian Bell.

John V. “Jack” Sauders

John V. “Jack” Sauders, 70, of Lancaster, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2023 at Lancaster General Hospital. He was the husband of Patti M. Eckert Sauders with whom he celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on November 16, 2022. He was born in Lancaster, son of the late Lewis Sauders and Marion Thran Sauders Smith and also his late step-father, Carl Smith, Sr.

Jack was a Work Release Administrator at the Lancaster County Prison for 36 years, starting in 1974 and retiring in 2010 and was also a Pennsylvania State Constable for 30 years. Jack was a graduate of JP McCaskey High School, Class of 1970 and enjoyed hunting and wildlife photography. Jack will be missed by his three Aussies: Savannah, Tori and Bode.

Jack was very active in the Lions Club with his Lions Club activities being very important to him. He joined the Millersville Lions Club in July of 1996 and was actually sponsored by his father-in-law, Leo Eckert. In February of 2017, he transferred to the Wakefield Lions Club. During his service in the clubs, he held the following positions: Millersville Lions Club President (2004, 2005 and 2006); Zone Chairperson (2009) and District Governor of District 14D (2013-2014). He was the recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award (2007) and also the Joseph Wroblewski Award (2010). He was very proud to participate in the Lions Relief efforts to help rebuild homes in Joplin, MO after the town was destroyed by a tornado in 2012.

Surviving in addition to his wife, one stepbrother: Carl Smith, Jr. One brother-in-law: Jack (Karen) Eckert. Sisters-in-law: Carolyn Sauders and Mai Sauders. Also, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Lewis W. Sauders and Jeffrey D. Sauders.

Carolyn C. Kortman, 80, of Mountville, passed away on Monday, December 5, 2022, peacefully at home. She was the wife of the late Robert A. Kortman, who passed away on July 12, 2008. She was born in Philadelphia, daughter of the late William and Hilda Tilton James. Carolyn enjoyed animals.

Douglas Dwight Daugherty

Douglas Dwight Daugherty, 70, of Columbia, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 5, 2023. Douglas was born in Hanover, son of the late Preston and Grace Louey Daugherty. He was preceded in death by one sister: Evelyn Wiegand and also his wife of nearly 50 years: Joy Eisenhart Daugherty.

He is survived by his current wife: Patricia, Columbia. Three children, whom he shared with Joy: Benjamin (Misty) Daugherty; Seth (Tasha) Daugherty, all of Hanover and Emily Daugherty, Rowlett, TX. Seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Three brothers: Preston, Gary and Gerald Daugherty and their spouses. 

Douglas enjoyed spending time outdoors, woodworking and vacationing in Potter County, Outer Banks and Williamsburg, VA.

J. Richard Nissley

J. Richard Nissley, 83, of Manor Township, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at home. He was the husband of Juanita Jean Bleacher Nissley with whom he would have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on March 28, 2023. He was born in Columbia, son of the late Russell K. and Mary McMullen Nissley. He worked as a machinist for Alcoa and retired from Precision Form, Lititz. He was a member of Millersville Community Church and enjoyed NASCAR.

He is survived by two daughters: Dorinda S. (Joseph) Howard and Katrina S. Hogg, all of Manor Township. Three grandchildren: Serena, Matthew and Dorian. Five great-grandchildren. One brother: David (Sue) Nissley, Manor Township. He was preceded in death by one brother: Thomas J. Nissley.

Shirley D. Billet, 80, of Mountville, passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2023. She was born in Columbia, daughter of the late Clarence and Ruth Kauffman Kauffman. Shirley worked as a salesperson before her retirement. She was a member of Concordia Evangelical Lutheran Church and enjoyed yard sales and spending time with her family.

Surviving are her children: Cindy (Kenny) Brenner; Chad Billet and Stacy (William) Waughtel. Four grandchildren: Kyle, Brittany, Connor and Logan. Two great-grandchildren: Gage and Malaki. One daughter-in-law: Deb Kauffman. She was preceded in death by one son: James Kauffman and four sisters: Nancy Kauffman, Jean Schlegelmilch, Doris Kauffman and Geraldine VonStetten

The Funeral Service will be held at Concordia Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3825 Concordia Road, Columbia 17512 on Friday, January 13, 2023 at 12:00 Noon with Pastor Traci Glover, officiating. Interment in the adjoining Church Cemetery. There will be no public viewing, however, visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon. Please omit flowers.
