Howard B. Larsen

Howard B. Larsen, 104, of St. John's Herr Estate, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2019 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. He was the husband of the late Beatrice V. Larsen, who passed away on December 29, 2003 and Elizabeth Kershner Kline Larsen with whom he celebrated their 14th wedding anniversary in December of 2018. He was born in Brooklyn, NY son of the late Jens and Margaret Thompson Larsen. Howard worked as a Supervisor in Telephone Services, Manhattan, before his retirement. He was a member of Reformation Lutheran Church and he enjoyed bowling, traveling, Big Band Music, and dancing.

Surviving in addition to his wife, one son: Kurt H. (Judy) Larsen. Two daughters: Janet E. (Tom) Fabian and Kristine B. (Jay) Lowman. One step-daughter: Renee E. (Thomas) Haag. One step-son: Jason S. (Louise) Kline. Four grandchildren. Three great-grandchildren. Five step-grandchildren. Five step-great-grandchildren. One sister: Madelyn Rowe. He was preceded in death by one step-son: Richard Kline and one step-grandson: Gregory Amato.

Lisa A. Stephenson

Lisa A. Stephenson, 52, of Columbia, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2019 while under the care of Hospice and Community Care. She was born in Sayre, PA daughter of Gordon C. Stephenson, Bloomington, MN and Judith C. Aylesworth Kerstetter, Mount Joy. She worked in Medical Records at RGI for 15 years. Lisa enjoyed reading, crocheting, hiking, riding motorcycles, and animal rescue.

Surviving in addition to her parents, her fiancée Michele Benham, Columbia. One step-daughter: Kristin L. Mason, Wilmington, NC. One sister: Fawn Stephenson-Lilly, Columbia. Two brothers and sister-in-laws. One niece and two nephews. Also, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Michael D. Graybill, 45, of Lancaster, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2019. He was born in Lancaster, son of Dennis E. Graybill and Donna J. Smith (Butch) Collins. He was an auto retailer for the Manheim Auto Auction. He enjoyed golfing, playing the guitar, motorcycles, wrestling, Philadelphia Eagles, and he loved his grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to his parents, his fiancé Leslie Hertzog. Three daughters: Alyssa R., Angela M., and Vanessa N. Graybill. Three grandchildren: Nevaeh Campbell, Benjamin M. Betty A. Seiger

Betty A. Seiger, 75, formerly of Kinderhook, passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2019. She was the wife of the late Rev. Larry K. Seiger. She was born in Kinderhook, daughter of the late Raymond B. and Ethel A. Moore Lockard. Betty loved to serve and faithfully cared for her family, the residents she served in various group homes, the foster children she helped raise, and the members of the many churches she and Larry served together.

She is survived by two sons: Rev. Timothy K. (Kimberly) Seiger, Etters; and Thomas K. (Tracy) Seiger, Millersville, foster daughter: Kelly Wallick, Sunbury, five grandchildren: Lauren (Paul) Stoltzfus; Brad; Emily; Katie; and Zach Seiger, one great-grandson: Colby Stoltzfus, and one brother: David L. (Doris) Lockard, Mount Joy.

Gerald F. Yeaglin

Gerald F. Yeaglin, 69, of West Hempfield Township passed away following a courageous, three year battle with Pancreatic Cancer on Monday, April 29, 2019 at home. He was the husband of Sharon L. McCracken Yeaglin with whom he celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on November 3, 2018. They were together since he was 18 years old. He was born in Lancaster, son of the late Paul L. and Bertha M. Wargo Yeaglin. He was a Superintendent for Lancaster Home Builders for 15 years. He was a member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church; a very avid Philadelphia sports fan; and a graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School, Class of 1968. He enjoyed hunting, playing golf, and socializing with his friends. He had been in the construction field most of his life. He was a volunteer coach and umpire for all three of his son's sporting events and shared his extended home building skills with his sons. His passion was his handyman skills which he also shared with family and friends.

Surviving in addition to his wife, three sons: Johnny P. Yeaglin, Boca Raton, FL; Kevin M. Yeaglin, Houston, TX; and Bryan C. (Vera) Yeaglin, Chattanooga, TN. Two grandchildren: Brooks and Caroline. He will be sadly missed by his eight brothers and sisters: Catherine (Terry) Baughman; Paul Yeaglin; William (Coral) Yeaglin; Ruth (Gary) Carmen; Theresa (the late Jere) High; James (Kim) Yeaglin; Margaret (Tom) Leddy; and Irene (Mark) Detwiler. He was preceded in death by one brother; Joseph Yeaglin.

Thomas T. Stohler

Thomas T. Stohler, 79, of Columbia, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2019. He was the husband of the late Patricia A. Stohler, who passed away on May 31, 2016. He was born in Mount Joy, son of the late Thomas L. and Vern Stohler. He was a tool & die maker and a Veteran of the US Marine Corp. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and training hunting dogs. Tom loved his family, especially his grandchildren.

Betty J. Hoffman

Betty J. Hoffman, 96, of Columbia, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at St. Anne's Retirement Community. She was the wife of the late Elwood L. Hoffman, who passed away in 1989. Betty was born in Columbia, daughter of the late Verne R. and Florence H. Miller. She was a very active, and longtime member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church; a lifelong member of the Order of Eastern Star, Columbia Chapter #366; and a very active volunteer for many area organizations.

She is survived by one daughter-in-law: Bonnie M. Hoffman, Columbia. Three grandchildren: Keith (Kathy) Hoffman, Manheim; Scott Hoffman, Tulleson, AZ; and Kyleann (Mitch) Heim, Columbia. Two great-grandchildren; Ashley (Terry) Spangenburg; and Alec Hoffman. Three great-great-grandchildren: Nathan, Emma, and Benjamin. One sister: Arlene (John) Landis, Lancaster. She was preceded in death by one son: Dennis E. Hoffman and nine brothers and sisters.

John R. Swarr

John R. Swarr, 85, of Columbia, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2019 at Juniper Village, Mount Joy. He was the husband of the late Mary Jane Swarr, who passed away on November 21, 2018. John was born in Columbia, son of the late Christian and Florence Smith Swarr. He was an inspector, having worked for Alcoa and Wyeth Laboratories before his retirement. John was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean Conflict with the Signal Corps at Fort Monmouth, NJ. He graduated from Lancaster Catholic High School, Class of 1953; was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church; a lifetime member of Red Rose Memorial VFW Post #2435; a former member of Hambones Pool League; was an avid bowler; worked with his dad as a paper hanger; and enjoyed going to the hunting camp in Perry County with his family and friends.

He is survived by one daughter: Kathy A. (Keith) Hoffman, Manheim. Two sons: John M. (Dora) Swarr, Columbia; and Mark L. (Krista J.) Swarr, York. One granddaughter: Madison Jane Swarr. He was the last of his immediate family having been preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

Mary (Hamm) Carper

Mary (Hamm) Carper, 91, of Willow Valley Lakes Manor, formerly of Manheim and Millersville, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, April 23, 2019. She was the wife of the late Richard G. Carper to whom she was married for 59 years before he passed away in 2014. Mary was born in Lancaster, daughter of the late Henry H. and Catherina Braun Hamm. She graduated from J.P. McCaskey High School, Class of 1946 and worked at Armstrong World Industries from 1943-1954. Mary was a lifelong member of Calvary Church. She volunteered for Calvary Homes, and Calvary Care Food pantry. Mary worked tirelessly in her husband’s deli business: Carper’s Home of Fine Foods, for 30 years. In 1969, Mary joined her husband in forming Garden Spot Promotions, assuming the role of CEO after Richard’s illness, while continuing the mission of providing and presenting Gospel Music and it’s message throughout South Central Pennsylvania until she retired in 2004. Mary lived her life with courage, integrity and good humor, leaving all who knew her with an example of hardworking perseverance and resilience.

Mary is survived by two sons: Ronald J. husband of Barbara Carper, Mount Joy and Roger L. husband of Barb Carper, Lancaster. One daughter: Marianne wife of Karl Neuenschwander, Leola. Six grandchildren. Seven great-grandchildren. Three step-grandchildren. Two step-great-grandchildren. One sister: Helen wife of Jerry Frey, Landisville. She was preceded in death by three siblings: Albert Hamm; Erna Brodhecker; and Anne Acker.

Ida S. Kennedy

Ida S. Kennedy, 83, of Lancaster, left this world on Saturday, April 20, 2019, from her home and joined her late husband, Shelburn R. Kennedy, who passed away on March 11, 1985. She was born in Millersburg, daughter of the late Harry J. and Mary Gregg Miller. She worked her entire life in retail, finally retiring from E.M. Herr, Ace Hardware, Columbia. Ida previously lived in Harrisburg, Shippensburg, Chambersburg and the Lancaster area. She loved Country Music, taking long car trips, the mountains, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Her favorite saying was "You better or I will bop you one!"

She is survived by her children: David (Marie) Kennedy, Scranton; Cynthia (James) Maley, Lancaster; Shelburn (Judith) Kennedy, Jr., Seneca; Robert (Kelly) Kennedy, Walnutport; Charles Kennedy, McConnellsburg; and Candice (Greg) Williams, Bradenton, FL. She was a beloved Grandma who had numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, step-children: Shelby, Melanie, and Nancy, and their families. She was preceded in death by one step-daughter: Theresa. Brothers: John, Russel, William, George, and Harry Miller, Jr. Sisters: Doris Mease, Carrie Salmons, Bessie Romberger, and Agnes Garmon.

Clyde Hess Herr

Clyde Hess Herr, 96, of Lancaster, passed away on April 22, 2019 at the Mennonite Home. He was the husband of the late Cecile L. Thumma Herr to whom he was married for 52 years. Clyde was born in Providence Township, son of the late Ira C., Sr. and Emma Hess Herr.

As a young man, Clyde was engaged in farming and later was employed by Martin's Chicks as a maintenance foreman for over 50 years. He was a charter member of Hempfield United Methodist Church and was dedicated to his wife and family. In retirement, he volunteered for over 15 years as a Meals-on-Wheels driver. Designing and creating furniture and wood projects was a favorite pastime in his basement wood-shop. Clyde also enjoyed fishing, hiking, traveling, and making video recordings of his trips.

He is survived by his daughters: Beverly A. (wife of the late J. Richard) White, Mount Joy; and Jeanne Herr (wife of Michael) Cassidy, Maytown. One grandson: Patrick Cassidy, Bellefonte. One brother: Ira C. (Mary Jean) Herr, Jr., Lititz. One sister: Dorothy (Joseph) Stoltzfus, Leola. He was preceded in death by one daughter: Nancy Eileen Herr Lawrence, and three brothers: J. Robert Herr, Roy D. Herr and Raymond Herr.

Ruth Lillian Davis

Ruth Lillian Davis, 83, of Columbia, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2019. She was born in Takoma Park, Maryland daughter of the late Oscar Wunder and Lillian Isabelle Shermer Scherger. Ruth was a graduate of Montgomery Blair High School, and thereafter attended the University of Maryland, College Park for two years. After getting married in February of 1956, to the late Alton Kenneth Davis, her next 13 years were occupied with being a homemaker and mother of three children.

It was after relocating to Elizabethtown that she decided to complete her education and find a career path. She enrolled in Elizbethtown College as a full-time student, all the while being a devoted full-time mother and maintaining a part-time job on campus. She graduated in 1972 with honors. Several years later, while teaching full-time, she completed her Masters in Education at Millersville State College (now Millersville University), and her story of being a 40 year old wife and mother returning to school to earn a degree with fellow students half her age was featured in the Lancaster newspaper at the time of her graduation.

Ruth taught in the Donegal School District for 24 years, primarily as a kindergarten teacher at the Maytown Elementary School. She had a passion for reading both as a teacher and as her own personal pastime. She took great pleasure in travel, both domestic and in Europe, always looking for a new, interesting place to visit. She loved being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and she loved losing her heart to a rascally cat or dog.

Ruth was preceded in death by her longtime companion, Albert McLaughlin. She is survived by her three children: Anne-Marie (Timothy) Killian; Kevin (Deborah) Davis; and Catherine Davis. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Matthew (Shannon) Killian; Jonathan (Valerie) Killian; Brian (Kaitlyn) Davis and Caroline Davis. Three great-grandchildren: Tyler, Austin and Sawyer Killian.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter Catholic Church, 121 South Second Street, Columbia on Friday, April 26, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. Mary J. King, 88, of Mountville, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2019 at LGH. She was the wife of Paul O. King, Jr. with whom she celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on October 3, 2018. She was born in Lancaster, daughter of the late J. Fred and Anna Frey Shoffstall. Mary was a charter member and very active in Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she was a Deaconess.

Patricia Ann Hallacher

Patricia Ann Hallacher, 83, of Columbia, passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. She was the wife of the late Raymond F. Hallacher, Sr., who passed away in 2011. She was born in Lancaster, daughter of the late Walter A. and Sara S. Rittenhouse McComsey. She worked as a bus aide at the S. June Smith Center before her retirement. Pat was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, and a former member of Columbia #1 Fire Company.

She is survived by her children: Raymond F. (Paula) Hallacher, Jr.; Dianne P. (Larry) McCauley; and Wanda J. (Tim) Fischer, all of Columbia. Seven grandchildren: Paul Hallacher (companion of Winnie), Fairfax, VA; Brett (Jennifer) Hallacher, Manheim; Raymond F. (Michelle) Hallacher, III, Marietta; Sara (Scott) Enedy, Willow Street; Nathan Fischer, Columbia; Angela (Justin) Paul, Columbia; and Tim Fischer, Columbia. Nine great-grandchildren. Two sisters: Evelyn Snyder, Mount Joy; and Susan Ortega, Carlisle. She was preceded in death by one sister: Barbara Keperling.

Catherine E. Glick

Catherine E. "Kitty" Glick, 102, of Mountville, waltzed into heaven and was caught by Ben on Monday, April 1, 2019 at St. Anne's Retirement Community. She was the wife of the late Benjamin L. Glick who passed away in 2008. She was born in Lancaster, daughter of the late Frank and Clara Ortman Ackerman. She worked as a folder at Standard Garment Co., Columbia. She was the oldest member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. She loved her dogs, reading, her family, especially her grandchildren, great- and great-great-grandchildren. Kitty was a nurturer.

She is survived by three sons: Benjamin F. Glick; Gary D. (Doris) Glick, all of Mountville; and Jay N. (fiance of Penny) Glick, Kingman, AZ. Five grandchildren. Six great-grandchildren. Two great-great-grandchildren. Four step-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren. One nephew: Fred Palmer. She was preceded in death by one sister: Irene Brubaker.

Rose E. Kauffman

Rose E. Kauffman, 82, of Stokes, NC, formerly of Lancaster, PA passed away on Friday, March 29, 2019 at home. She was the wife of the late Charles A. Kauffman, who passed away on July 7, 2017. She was born in Cambria County, PA, daughter of the late Francis A. and Della M. Judson Pierce. She was a custodian for Manheim Township Schools, Lancaster and in her earlier years was a nurse's assistant at Pitt Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed bowling, crocheting, hunting, fishing, traveling, birds, being outdoors, singing, Southern Gospel Music, cooking for her family, family gatherings, and going to yard sales. Rose was a woman of her faith.

She is survived by her children: Frederick Wilson, Timothy Wilson, Wayne Wilson, Carol Briley, and Marie (Larry) Sutton, all of North Carolina. One step-son: Jeffrey A. (Cindy) Kauffman. Two step-daughters: Connie Weaver, and Charlene Burkholder. One step-daughter-in-law: Susan Kauffman, all of Lancaster County. Earl R. Musser, Jr.

Earl R. Musser, Jr., 72, of Columbia passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2019. He was the husband of Lynn A. Deets Musser with whom he celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary on December 5, 2018. He was born in Lancaster, son of the late Earl R., Sr. and Dorothy M. Moore Musser. He was a bricklayer for more than 30 years. Following his retirement, he worked at Columbia High School as a custodian/security guard for 15 years on the weekends.

Surviving in addition to his wife, his children: Brenda M. Musser, Mary C. Musser, Christine Musser, Earl R. Musser, III, all of Columbia; Michael B. McKenney, Florida, Kelly R. Musser, and Drew M. Musser, both of Columbia. Four grandchildren and one great-grandson. One brother: John (Joann) McKenney, Florida. One sister: Georgia (George) Kennedy, Columbia. He was preceded in death by one sister: Rebecca Musser.

Gladys M. Dinkel

Gladys M. Dinklel, 94, of Lancaster, formerly of Columbia, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2019. She was the wife of the late Francis J. Dinkel. She was born in Silver Spring, daughter of the late William and Ethel Hesslet Shirey. She worked as an assembler at Hamilton Watch Company during WWII and worked at the Alto Movie theater in her younger years. Gladys was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where she was very active in the parish during her lifetime, including the PTO, a School Guard, a member of the Altar Rosary Society and baking fastnachts as part of the annual parish Lenten tradition. She cherished and enjoyed her family, including her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her children: Dianne M. (William T.) Orem, Lancaster; Sandra L. (John) Zercher, Columbia; and William H. (the late Julie) Dinkel, Lancaster. Six grandchildren: Angie (Chris) Quinn; Scott Culp; J. Michael (Deb) Zercher; Christopher J. (Stephanie) Zercher; Chad (Lyndy) Marley; Benjamin Marley, and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Francine F. Marley, wife of the late Robert Marley.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 409 Cherry Street, Columbia, PA 17512 on Friday, March 22, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Stephen P. Kelley, Celebrant. H. Kermit Rohrer

Kerm Rohrer, 81, of Mountville, went to be with his Savior on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at his home on the farm. He was the husband of Elaine Rohrer to whom he was married for 54 years. He was born in Mountville, son of the late Henry B. and Lillie Bucher Rohrer. He was a farmer and also worked for R.S. Hollinger and Sons for 26 years. Kerm was a member of LCBC-Manheim Campus. He was a member and served for many years with the Mountville Fire Company. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandson, and also going to the cabin with them in Lycoming County. Kerm, who had a big heart, enjoyed and loved serving people.

Rohrer, York and their children: Holly, and Alyssa and Kerm’s great-grandson: Brock; Corene R. “Cis” (Dan) Cloyd, Mountville and their son: Mark (Betsy); and Michael D. (Peggy L.) Rohrer, Washington Boro and their children: Asher, Aiden, and Cora. One brother: Myron (Roseanne) Rohrer. One sister: Doris Brubaker.

The Life Celebration Service will be held at LCBC, West Wing Auditorium, 2392 Mount Joy Road, Manheim on Friday, March 22, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. with his son-in-law Pastor Dan Cloyd, officiating. Jessie Rae Snavely

Jessie Rae Snavely, 89, of St. Anne's Retirement Community, formerly of Landisville, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2019 at her residence. She was the wife of the late David K. Snavely, who passed away in 1962. She was born in Dover Township, daughter of the late Norman A. and Edna Marie Spahr Gross. Jessie was a school nurse for the Hempfield School District for 30 years before her retirement in 1992. She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church and was a graduate of Dover High School, York Hospital School of Nursing and the Millersville State Teachers College.

She is survived by one daughter: Cynthia Jane (Kelly) Donahue, Johns Island, SC. Two grandchildren: Matthew D. (Katherine) Donahue, and Sara Kathleen Donahue. Two great-grandchildren: Margaret and Evelyn Donahue. One niece: Sue M. Kendig, Palmyra. One brother: Jason E. Gross, Dover. She was preceded in death by one daughter: Barbara Ann Snavely.

The Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel at St. Anne's Retirement Community, 3952 Columbia Ave., Columbia, PA 17512 on Friday, March 15, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. with Chaplain Ken Giovanelli, officiating.
