James L. Eshleman

James L. Eshleman, 88, of Manor Township, passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at St. Anne's Retirement Community. He was the husband of L. Fay Sheckart Eshleman with whom he celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on March 7, 2020. He was born in Washington Boro, son of the late Earl T. and Alice Neff Eshleman. He was a heavy equipment operator for Bear Creek Construction and G & E Construction. He also worked for the highway department for West Hempfield Township before his retirement. Jim was a member of Washington Boro Church of God and enjoyed going to antique tractor shows; woodworking and his family. He was also active in the Washington Boro Historical Society.

Surviving in addition to his wife, one son: Timothy J. (Pam) Eshleman, Conestoga. One daughter: Darlene K. (Robert) Sands, Lancaster. One son-in-law: Donald Bogart, Palmyra. Five grandchildren. Seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter: Deborah Bogart. Three brothers: Earl K.; Edward R.; and Charles A. Eshleman.

Henry S. "Butch" Brenner

Henry S. "Butch" Brenner, 72, of Columbia, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2020. He was born in Lancaster, son of the late Henry S. May and Betty J. Brenner. He was a foundry worker at New Standard Foundry, Mount Joy.

He is survived by one sister: Rose Boughtner, Columbia. He was preceded in death by two sisters: Margaret Ball and Mary Conger.

Earl T. Raihl, Jr.

Earl T. Raihl, Jr., 68, of West Hempfield Township, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2020 at Lancaster General Hospital. He was born in Lancaster, son of the late Earl T., Sr. and June N. Snyder Raihl. He was a material handler for Arconic for 40 years before his retirement in 2015. He enjoyed watching Penn State Football, the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles, and watching his niece's softball games.

He is survived by one brother: Eugene J. Raihl. One nephew: Eugene Earl ("Griz" Grisselle) Raihl, West Hempfield Twp. Two great-nieces: Ashley Raihl and Asaysha Raihl. He was preceded in death by one sister: Erla Herr.

Evelyn A. Enterline

Evelyn A. Enterline, 91, of Central Manor, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2020 at St. Anne's Retirement Community. She was the wife of Roy F. Enterline, with whom she would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on June 4, 2020. She was born in Pequea Township, daughter of the late Parke and Edna Warfel Eckman. She enjoyed gardening, her flower beds, going to her cabin in Lycoming County, her family, cooking and baking. Her grandchildren loved her pies. She was a graduate of Normal School, Millersville, Class of 1947.

Surviving in addition to her husband, one daughter: Janice M. (Nelson H.) Myer. One son: Robert L. Enterline. Seven grandchildren. Sixteen great-grandchildren. One brother: Parke (Elaine) Eckman. She was preceded in death by one son: Donald L. Enterline; two brothers: Claude Eckman and Clarence Eckman, Sr.

Peggy Lee Stohler

Peggy Lee Stohler, 65, of Masonic Village, Elizabethtown passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at her residence. She was the wife of the late Leonard L. Stohler, who passed away on November 2, 2003. She was born in Lancaster, daughter of Carl S., Sr. and Bernie Vison Hackman, Masonic Village. She was a clerical worker for Harold E. Smith, Co. and also worked at the Blind Association, making many accessories for the US Military. She was a longtime member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Mountville before becoming a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir. Peggy attended the S. June Smith Center and was a graduate of Lampeter Strasburg High School, Class of 1974, where she received an award for perseverance. She also received a varsity letter in gymnastics. She was an independent, strong-willed, and was an amazing woman who loved the Lord. She also loved singing, her family, her cat: "Reggie", and her seeing-eye dogs: "Baxter" and "Rusty".

Surviving in addition to her parents, two sisters: Carol Ann (William, Sr.) Disanto; and Debra (David) Sload. One brother: Carl S. (Pamela) Hackman, Jr. Three nieces, two nephews, and seven great-nieces and nephews.

Ray E. Kriner, Sr., 71, of York, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2020 at UPMC Memorial Hospital. He was born in Lancaster, son of the late Ray H. and Sarah Gutchall Kriner. He was a heavy equipment operator, having worked for Witmire Construction and Abel Construction before his retirement. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps, serving during the Vietnam Conflict. Ray enjoyed fishing, his family, and especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by one son: J.R. (Julie) Kriner. Three grandchildren: Ray E. Kriner, III; Kinsey Kriner; and Kerigan Kriner. One sister: Cathy Murphy. Long-time companion: Lois Geisler. He was preceded in death by one son: Ray E. Kriner, Jr.

Celia G. Kio, 69, of Columbia, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at home. She was the wife of Rex A. Kio. Celia was born in Port Allegany, daughter of the late Clinton and Naomi Jameson Baker. She was a data processor for North Penn Gas Supply for 36 years before her retirement. Celia loved music and singing.

Lottie E. Douts

Lottie E. Douts, 94, of Washington Boro, passed away on Monday, March 16, 2020. She was the wife of the late Charles E. Douts, Sr. She was born in Columbia, daughter of the late Abram O. and Ada Henry Duke. She was a member of Washington Boro Church of God; was a volunteer with the Cherry Red Ladies, Columbia Hospital. Lottie enjoyed cooking, gardening and baking her special home-cooked meals for her family. The holidays and family gatherings were special times for her. She dearly loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her love and compassion for her family will be missed. She enjoyed camping, gardening, traveling with her late husband of 71 years before he passed away.

She is survived by her children: Larry E. (Joyce) Douts; Mary Ann (Charles) Barnett; Charles E. (Catherine) Douts, Jr.; Keith B. Douts; and Greg A. (Wendy) Douts. Eleven grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren. Three brothers and seven sisters. She was preceded in death by two sisters.

Elmer J. Berkebile

Elmer J. Berkebile, 94, of Woodcrest Villa, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at the Mennonite Home. He was the husband of the late Alice D. Yoder Berkebile, to whom he was married for 65 years before she passed away in 2010, and Mary Simmons Bundy Berkebile, Woodcrest Villa. He was born in South Fork, PA, son of the late Lester W. and Bertha Jennings Berkebille. Elmer was a graduate of Adams Township High School, Sidman, PA and was a veteran of the US Navy, serving during WWII. He held an undergraduate degree from Juniata College and graduate degrees from the University of Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania State University. His life's work was in public education. He served as a teacher, guidance counselor, high school principal, supervising principal, superintendent of schools, and served on several committees and boards. He was known for his many innovations at the schools where he served, most notably Penn Manor School District, Millersville.

Surviving in addition to his wife, two daughters: Peggy (late Thomas) Peterson, Berlin, MD; and Cathy (David) Enders, Fairview, TN. Five grandchildren: Samantha Peterson; Laura (Adam) Minakowski; Beth (Ronald) Knerr; Stephen (Lisa Reisinger) Enders; and Timothy (Sara Mitchell) Enders. Five great-grandchildren. One brother: Wesley J. Berkebile, New Wilmington, PA. Elmer was preceded in death by one sister: Caroline Berkebile Thomas. He is also survived by Mary's family, two sons: John (Rae Johnson) Bundy, Lancaster; and Daryl (Roni Rawlings) Bundy, Leland, NC. Eight step-grandchildren.

Patricia L. Saylor, 81, of Lancaster, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at home. She was the wife of the late L. Lewis Saylor who passed away in December 1979. She was born in Dundalk, MD, daughter of the late Ward W. and Vera Phillips Hickman. She was a shift supervisor for Kellogg's for 25 years before retiring in 2001. Patricia was a graduate of Dundalk High School, Class of 1957 and was of the Methodist faith. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and was a world traveler. She also enjoyed going to the beach at Ocean City, MD and the Chesapeake Bay

She is survived by her children: Deborah L. (Paul) Bowman; Charles R. Saylor; and Rhonda K. Saylor, all of Lancaster. Former daughter-in-law: Anna M. Dupes Saylor, Lancaster. Five grandchildren: Michael (Becky) Bowman; Chelsea (Brian) Bohenick; Andrea Bowman; Marlena Saylor; and Charles "CJ" Saylor. Darlene Smith Lamberson

Darlene Smith Lamberson, 91, of Lancaster passed away peacefully on Monday, March 9, 2020 at Homestead Village. She was the fourth child of fourteen children born in Penn Township, to the late Benjamin Wilhelm and Minnie Hoffer Smith. She was the wife of the late Eliger Clark Lamberson, who passed away on December 9, 1991. Although she worked at Hamilton Watch for a few years, she was a stay at home mother who loved to cook and bake for her family. She and her husband lived in Mountville and Lancaster prior to retiring to Potts Nets, DE where Darlene and EC enjoyed fishing and crabbing.

Darlene was a loving mother and homemaker to her children: the late Charlotte, deceased in 2003 and her husband: John Harnish, Manheim; Bonita (Joseph) McCoy, Lancaster; Linda (Stephen) Himpsl, Mountville; Janet (Paul) Miller, East Petersburg; Brenda (Bruce) Fleming, Mount Joy; and Steven (Marjorie) Lamberson, Millersville. Nine grandchildren: Brian (Patricia) Wanger; Eric (Alana) Karr; Lance (Tammy) Karr; Janette Himpsl (Frank) Harro; Stephanie Himpsl (Logan) Braun; Allie Fleming; John Fleming; Kyle Lamberson; and Carrie Lamberson. Six great-grandchildren: Martin Wanger; Taylor (Kim) Karr; Gage (Lauren) Karr; Jenna Karr; Megan Karr; and Katelyn Harro. One great-great-granddaughter: April Karr. One step-great-granddaughter: Alexxis Phillips. One step-great-great-grandson: Logan Strenger. Two brothers: Robert Smith and Wayne Smith, both of Florida. Two sisters: Helen Smith Rhoads, Warrenton, VA and Shirley Smith Morrison, Conestoga. Esther R. Nissley

Esther R. Nissley, 97, formerly of Washington Boro passed into the presence of her Savior on Sunday, March 8, 2020 at Paramount Senior Living, Maytown. She was the wife of the late Charles K. Nissley to whom she was married for 67 years before he passed away in 2016. She was born in Lancaster, daughter of the late C. Roy and Alva Musser and the adopted daughter of the late Warren Kurtz and Mary Hank Radcliffe. Esther graduated from East Hempfield High School, Class of 1941, then Lancaster General Hospital School of Nursing in 1947. She was a member of the US Cadet Nurse Corps, an organization whose purpose was to alleviate the nursing shortage that existed during WWII. After marriage, she and Charles worked on a poultry farm in Washington Boro for several years. After that, she was the bookkeeper for their family custom spraying business until her retirement in 1989.

Esther is survive by four sons: C. Kenneth (Susan Hevner) Nissley, Darlington, SC; Richard A. (Susan Schock) Nissley, Elizabethtown; David K. (Lucille Funk) Nissley, Lancaster; and Craig E. (Kathleen Flannagan) Nissley, Columbia. Twelve grandchildren. Nineteen great-grandchildren. Three step-brothers: Warren Radcliffe, Jr., Downingtown; Paul H. Radcliffe, Robesonia; and Carl Radcliffe, Parkersburg, WV. She was preceded in death by one brother: Robert Musser and one sister: Arlene (Musser) Baker. Half-brothers: Lester Gordon Smith; Donald Leigh Smith; K. Lemar Smith; and half-sister: Doris (Smith) Bushong. Step-brother: Allen Radcliffe.

Rhoda M. Harnish

Rhoda M. Harnish, 94, of Lancaster, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at Landis Homes. She was born in her home in West Hempfield Township and lived there her entire life. She was the daughter of the late John H. and Bertha Stoner Kreider Harnish. Rhoda was a bookkeeper at Herr Fruit Farms and also worked at the former Arcade Market and was a 1942 graduate of the former East Hempfield High School. She was a member of Chestnut Hill Mennonite Church, Columbia and its sewing circle. Rhoda was also a member of the Mennonite Historical Society and her family did geneology.

Surviving are her cousins. She was preceded in death by one brother: John Norman Harnish and one sister: Kathryn Eleanor Harnish.

Thomas G. Welsh, 79, of Columbia, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at home. He was the husband of Flora A. Hertz Welsh. He was born in Columbia, son of the late Cleon, Sr. and Iona Weaver Welsh. He was a printer, having worked at Mountville Wallpaper Company and Hanover Wallpaper Company for 30 years before his retirement.

Surviving in addition to his wife, three sons: Thomas (Becky) Welsh, Jr.; Joseph (Sherry) Welsh; and Grant Garner. One step-son: Scott (Kerrie) Brewster. One step-daughter: Heather (Robert) Butler. Eleven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Five step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Cleon Welsh, Jr.; Edward Welsh; and Albert Welsh and two sisters: Phyllis Welsh and Shirley.

Barbara K. Yake, 68, formerly of West Hempfield Township passed away on Friday, February 21, 2020 at Susquehanna Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late James A. Yake, Sr. who passed away on April 29, 2014. She was born in Harrisburg, daughter of the late Irvin and Betty Bowman Heller, and she enjoyed crossword puzzles, social events, TV shows, movies, spending time talking and she enjoyed her family.

Jane M. Dietrich, 60, of York, passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at home. She was the wife of J. Douglas Dietrich with whom she would have celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary on June 30, 2020. She was born in York, daughter of Norma Jean Kinard Kline, York and the late Glenn O. Kline. She was a clerical worker for McCrory's for more than 20 years and also worked at Apple Outdoor Supply. She was a member of Locust Grove United Church of Christ and was a lifetime member of the York Fairgrounds Society. She enjoyed reading, watching her son race and the mountains.

Josephine M. Misal, 88 of Columbia, passed away on Monday, February 17, 2020. She was the wife of the late Charles A. Misal. Josephine was born in Laureldale, daughter of the late Charles D. and Florence M. Frankhouser Fritz. She was of the Protestant faith and enjoyed helping in the kitchen at local churches. She was a Girl Scout leader and also enjoyed flowers, gardening and her family.

She is survived by her children: Carl A. (Sharon E.) Misal; Carol A. (James L.) Martin; Bruce A. Misal, all of Columbia, and Bonnie L. (the late David H., Sr.) Aulthouse, Mount Joy. Ellene N. Lefever

Ellene N. Lefever, 94, of Landis Homes, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2020 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Paul B. Lefever, who passed away on December 25, 2004. She was born in East Lampeter Township, daughter of the late Rev. Harry N. and Katie H. Denlinger Neff. She was a member of Mellinger Mennonite Church. Ellene enjoyed flowers, her pen-pal ministry to those who are incarcerated, her family, and she was a gentle, kind, and humble person.

She is survived by one daughter: Nancy L. (Raymond E.) Reitz, Manor Twp. One son: J. Paul (Suzanne) Lefever, Xenia, OH. Four grandchildren: Jennifer (Phil) Kratz; Erika (Kris) Good; Sara (Jesse) Pellman; and Chandler Lefever. Nine great-granchildren. Four sisters: Marian Martin; Betty Martin; Alma (Luke) Martin; and Evelyn (Hershey) Hostetter. She was preceded in death by one daughter: Shirley L. Forney and seven siblings: Dorothy Hershey, John Neff, Clarence Neff, Lloyd Neff, Mervin Neff, Grace Reitz, and Harry Neff, Jr.

The Memorial Service will be held at the WEST BETHANY CHAPEL at Landis Homes, 1001 Oregon Road, Lititz on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. with visitation from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. Nancy J. Gentzler

Nancy J. Gentzler, 87, of Country Meadows, Leader Heights went to meet her Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 8, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late William R. Gentzler who passed away on July 9, 2009. She was born in Columbia, daughter of the late Sherman G. and Edna F. Ryan Greider. She was an inspector for Bendix Corp. for 19 years and also for Wyeth Laboratories for 14 years before her retirement in 1988. She was a member of Freysville Emmanuel UCC and enjoyed traveling; baking, especially making sand-tarts and she loved her cat Billy.

The Family would like to thank Country Meadows for the wonderful care that was given to her.

She is survived by one grandson: Garrett D. (Angela) Kistler. One sister: Betty A. Greider Morris. One nephew: Paul A. Morris. One niece: Linda Yohn Warner. Great-nieces: Sarah G. (Cory) Riese and Samantha G. Warner Musser. One great-great niece: Isabella M. Musser. She was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.

The Funeral Service will be held at the Workman Funeral Homes, Inc., 31 South Eighth Street, Columbia on Friday, February 14, 2020 at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. Dr. Leon C. Via, III, officiating.
