Charles E. Douts, Sr.

November 2, 2016 Gregory Workman

Charles E. Douts, Sr., 89, of Washington Boro, passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2016. He was the husband of Lottie E. Duke Douts with whom he celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary on February 19, 2016. Charlie was born in rural Mt. Nebo,  son of the late Emerson and Mary Walton Douts and grew up there during the Great Depression. Like many of his generation, he learned how to be content with little, and appreciated friends and family. He had compassion for those who were truly needy, and lent a hand with his talents and skills without expecting any compensation. Charlie was a member of Washington Boro Church of God  and was a veteran of the US Navy serving during WWII. Following his military service, he pursued education at Steven’s Trade, Lancaster, becoming an electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), Reading. He enjoyed his family, and camping activities at the beach and the mountains. Charlie was an avid gardener, who raised Washington Boro tomatoes and sweet Corn. He took pride in helping his children and family with various construction projects by providing electrical service for their homes, and building additions. He was a charter member of the Washington Boro Society for Susquehanna River Heritage and volunteered with his son Larry, to provide electrical service at the Blue Rock Heritage Center. Charlie also installed the electrical service to the Washington Boro Fire Company building which was constructed in 1970.

Surviving in addition to his wife, his 5 children: Larry E. (Joyce) Douts; Mary Ann (Charles) Barnett; Charles E. (Catherine) Douts, Jr.; Keith B. Douts; and Greg A. (Wendy) Douts. Eleven grandchildren. Nineteen great-grandchildren. One sister: Jane Tomlinson. He was preceded in death by two brothers, and one sister.

The Douts Family would like to give a special thank you to the nursing staff of Susquehanna Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the care shown to them.

The Funeral Service will be held at Washington Boro Church of God, 115 Rockfish Street, Washington Boro, on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. with Charles E. Douts, Jr. and Pastor Dennis K. Regitz, officiating. Interment in the adjoining cemetery with Full Military Honors. Friends may call at the church from 9:30 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Please omit flowers. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to: the PA Wounded Warrior Project, Inc., 1117 Country Club Rd., Camp Hill, PA 17011.
