Myrtle K. Barto

January 24, 2017 Gregory Workman

Myrtle K. Barto, 87, of Landis Homes, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at Lancaster General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Daniel E. Barto, who passed away on July 27, 2010. She was born in Pottstown, daughter of the late Herbert W. and Elizabeth Koch Bean. Myrtle was a loving wife and mother of five children, devoted to her family. In high school she was varsity captain of her field hockey team. She enjoyed a lifetime of singing in her church choirs and had a beautiful soprano voice. Her love of flowers and passion for gardening made this her favorite pastime. She also loved cooking and baking and made many wonderful meals. Myrtle and her family also went on many family vacations and traveled to many wonderful places. She and her husband Daniel moved from Pottstown to Willow Street in 1965. They retired to Colorado, where they enjoyed hiking, jeeping, and fishing for 10 years before returning to Lancaster. Myrtle spent the last three years, happily, at Landis Homes, where she was blessed by special friends and a wonderful staff.

Surviving are three sons: Larry D. husband of Sandra J. (Hull) Barto, Spicewood, TX; Thomas L. husband of Laura A. (Barnhill) Barto, Wheaton, IL; and David A. Barto, Lancaster. Two daughters: Linda S. Hagen companion of Dennis M. Davin, Pittsburgh; and Debra A. wife of Anthony D. Vital, Jr., Lancaster. Nine grandchildren: Eric Barto, Cheryl (Barto) Shoults; Cindy Barto; Danielle (Barto) Gosky; Chelsea Hagen; Dylan Vital; Jeremy Vital; Courtney (Vital) Kriebs; and Jesse Vital. Six great-grandchildren: Peyton Barto; Karter Barto; Liv Kriebs; Mia Kriebs; Royce Vital; and Daniel Shoults (Due March 14). Four siblings: Arline (Bean) Gohean; Ethel (Bean) Miller; Martha (Bean) Baynes; and Ronald Bean. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Harold Bean, and Carl Bean.

The Funeral Service will be held at the Workman Funeral Homes, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Mountville, on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. with Chaplain Cindy Barto, officiating. Interment in Mountville Cemetery. Friends may call from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to: Landis Homes Caring Fund, 1001 East Oregon Road, Lititz, PA 17543.
