Vera M. Charles

Vera M. Charles, 85, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 30, 2017 at St. Anne’s Retirement Community, following a short illness. She was the wife of Eugene A. Charles with whom she celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on September 15, 2016. She was born in New Danville, daughter of the late Harry T. and Ethel Wappenstein Herr. She worked in the office of Jerome H. Rhoades, Inc. for 22 years before her retirement in 1971. She was a member of Central Manor Church of God for 58 years. Vera was a graduate of Penn Manor High School, Class of 1949. She collected antiques and was a dealer for 28 years, doing many shows in Lancaster County and York County. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, freezing and canning fruits and vegetables, having grown them in her own garden.

The Funeral Service will be held at Central Manor Church of God, 387 Penn Street, Washington Boro on Friday, February 3, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Ed Rosenberry, officiating. Private interment will be in Conestoga Memorial Park. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to: Help the Fight, Cancer Fund: 143 Oakridge Drive, Mountville, PA 17554.
