Margaret M. Bemesderfer

Margaret M. Bemesderfer, 93, of Mountville, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2017. She was the wife of the late James M. Bemesderfer, Sr. who passed away on January 20, 1980. She was born in Middletown, daughter of the late Samuel F., Sr. and Virgie Houser Ierley. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Mountville Fire Company. Margaret became the first Lancaster County School Crossing Guard in 1953 and served over twenty years in that position. She also enjoyed oil painting and crocheting.

She is survived by one son: James M., Jr. and daughter-in-law Kay Bemesderfer, Mountville. Three grandchildren: Bradley, Mount Joy; Craig, New Providence; and Kurt, Mountville. Five great-grandchildren: Joshua, William, Katie, Kurt, and Skyler. One sister: Helen Rank, Middletown. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Samuel Ierley, Jr. and Charles Ierley. Two sisters: Louise Kapp and Emily Ierley.

The family would like to express their grateful appreciation for the loving, tender care she received at St. John’s Herr Estate where she lived for almost five years; Luther Care, where she spent the last three weeks of her life; and to Hospice and Community Care for their dedicated care of Margaret.

At Margaret’s request, there will be no public services. Interment will be in Mountville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contribution in her name to: St. John’s Herr Estate, 200 Luther Lane, Columbia, PA 17512; Luther Care, 600 East Main Street, Lititz, PA 17543; Hospice and Community Care, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125; or St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 100 West Main Street, Mountville, PA 17554.
