Dennis R. Murr

Dennis R. Murr, 74, of Columbia, passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. He was born in Columbia, son of the late Raymond J. and Esther Fisher Murr. He worked in the Shipping Department at Caterpillar Tractor, Inc. for 34 years and also at the Manheim Auto Auction, before his retirement. He was a veteran of the US Air Force, serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was of the Christian Faith; a lifetime member of the Foresters of America; an avid Columbia and Penn State sports fan; had a strong interest and was an historian of WWI and WWII; and was a videographer for Hempfield High School Football. He enjoyed his grandchildren and attending their activities; traveling, having taken many cruises; and spending time at the cabin on the river.

He is survived by one son: Todd D. Murr, Landisville, and one daughter: Eileen M. (Don R.) Murr-Schoelkopf, Lancaster. Seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. One sister: Penny M. (Gary G.) Shaffer, Hellam.

The Memorial Service will be held at the Workman Funeral Homes, Inc., 31 South Eighth Street, Columbia on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at 3:00 P.M. Private interment will be in Silver Spring Cemetery with Full Military Honor. Please omit flowers.
