Henry G. Gentzler

Henry G. Gentzler, Sr., 86, of Columbia, passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. He was the husband of Mary Lou Bartch Gentzler with whom he celebrated their 65th  wedding anniversary on June 2, 2016. He was born in Lancaster County, son of the late Harry W. and Annie S. Walters Gentzler. Henry was the plant superintendent at the former Cargill, Marietta for forty-one years before his retirement in 1991. He was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church where he served on church council; a veteran of US Army serving during the Korean conflict; was a member of the former Washington Boro-Manor Lions Club; served on Washington Boro Council; enjoyed NASCAR; and was an avid sprint race car fan.

Surviving in addition to his wife, one daughter: Kimberly K. Bell, Mount Joy. Seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son: Henry G. “Hank” Gentzler, Jr., and ten brothers and sisters. 

The Funeral Service will be held at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sixth and Locust Streets, Columbia on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Beth Costlow officiating. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Wrightsville with full military honors. Friends may call at the Workman Funeral Homes, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Mountville, on Monday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and also at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.  Please omit flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to: The ALS Association (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) or St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church or Hospice and Community Care. To send an online condolence visit the condolence page.
