James G. "Jim" Meley, 84, of West Hempfield Township, passed away on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Lancaster General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Jim was the husband of Jennifer Fisher Meley, with whom he celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on May 27, 2025. He was born in Youngstown, Ohio, son of the late Nicholas J. and Margaret P. McKenna Meley. Jim was a Veteran of the US Army and was a member of Hempfield United Methodist Church, where he was an usher. Jim was a director of the Hempfield Area Rec Center and a union President. He enjoyed going on bus trips.
Jim was an Insurance Agent for Prudential for 23 years, retired from the US Post Office after 12 years and also worked for the Hempfield School District at Farmdale.
Surviving in addition to his wife, his children: Joel Eugene Meley; J. Megan Meley; Jacqulyn "Lyn" (Tony) Troyer and Joy Meley (Steven Deeg), all of Lancaster. Seven grandchildren: Eleanor, Nicholas, Benjamin, Timothy, Sebastian, Spencer and Theodore. One brother: Patrick Meley, Mountville. Numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Joseph, Lawrence and William Meley.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Workman Funeral Homes, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Mountville, on Monday, October 20, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. Friends may call from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Interment in Mountville Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Please omit flowers. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
