Sylvia M. Squires, 96, of Lancaster, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. She was the wife of the late Fred Squires, who passed away in May of 1990. She was born in Lancaster, daughter of the late Elmer and Ida May Herr Hershey. Sylvia was a news correspondent having worked for WGAL, WLAN and Lancaster Newspapers. She attended the Brethren In Christ Church and was a graduate of JP McCaskey High School, Class of 1947. Sylvia was an avid artist, enjoyed oil painting and her family.
She is survived by one son: Allen (Sandra) Squires, Wellsboro. One daughter: Tammy Squires, Lancaster. Seven grandchildren: Dusty, Carolyn, Marc, Eric, Rob, Steven and Kyle. Eight great-grandchildren. One brother: Richard Hershey. One sister: Thelma Bechard. One daughter-in-law: Jannell Squires. She was preceded in death by one son: Glenn Squires and one daughter: Dawn Squires.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Workman Funeral Homes, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Mountville on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 1:00 P.M. The Viewing will be from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 P.M.
