Nichole M. Darley

Nichole Darley’s Life Story

On December 15, 1971, after seven hours of labor, Nichole was born to Maude Howell and Marvin Hill. Weighing 7lbs. 9 oz, with a head full of hair, Nichole was precious from the very beginning. A small, tiny, little munchkin, as a child Nichole, was affectionately called Munch. And although small in stature, Nichole wasted no time in talking and walking. At seven-months-old, she would walk under the tables and when she began talking, she spoke in full sentences, something that she would continue to do very well for the rest of her life.

Raised in Willow Grove, Nichole initially attended school in Upper Mooreland Township, it was also at this time that Nichole finally started sleeping through the night. Prior to this time, she would stay awake, talking and seeking attention, including throwing things from her crib as an infant to make sure that mom enjoyed the late night to early morning hours with her. Yes, if Nichole had an objective, she would not stop until she accomplished that thing.

After spending ten years in the Upper Mooreland Township Public Schools, Nichole applied for and was accepted into Germantown Academy. This was done despite one of her teachers repeatedly telling the entire class that they were “too dumb to get in.” Yes, if Nichole had an objective, she would not stop until she accomplished that thing.

Nichole excelled in school, graduated with all As in her last semester of high school and entered Lehigh University. She began working in retail during this time including at Gap, Williams Sonoma, and Bloomingdales, where she was singled out as one of the highest sellers in the children’s department.

Nichole went to work at Health Answers, where she had the opportunity to travel extensively throughout the country. Nichole later worked at Centocor, a Johnson and Johnson subsidiary, although it was not long before she moved up the corporate ladder and was transferred to the home office where she secured the position as the Global Manager of Learning Technology. During that time, Nichole was commuting three hours from Lancaster, Pennsylvania to New Brunswick, New Jersey. Later, Nichole assumed the position as Global HR Vice President at Tait Towers where she worked for five years. Yes, if Nichole had an objective, she would not stop until she accomplished that thing.

In 2008, Nichole married Simon Darley. From their union, Kendall was born, the joy and heart of Nichole. Nichole loved, loved her daughter and cherished being a mom. Kendall was her world, sun, moon, and stars. Simon’s extended family also became an extension of Nichole, with a memorable trip to Canada in which she strategically planned and organized with detail and precision. Nichole embraced family and she was embraced by them.

A people person, Nichole was a magnet for people, who looked to her to share personal information, with an assurance that she would keep things confidential and “not share anything.” Nichole had a beautiful heart and a kind spirit. She was an advocate for those who did not have a voice or whose voice was silenced and spoke eloquently for those in need. She saw potential in others and intentionally gave them the opportunity to move into becoming who they were meant to be.

Nichole loved cooking, many genres of music, particularly the BTS, and traveling, and loved God. Formerly a member of Sharon Baptist Church, where she worked at the bookstore and audio ministry, Nichole single handedly created the audio database for the ministry. Yes, if Nichole had an objective, she would not stop until she accomplished that thing.

On July 26, 2025, after a well-fought battle, Nichole had an objective. As her husband, Simon, and mother, Maude, held her hands, the accomplished Nichole transitioned from this earthly realm to a place of no more sickness, no more sorrow, no more pain. Cherishing their journey and times together is her husband, Simon, her adored daughter, Kendall, her beloved mother, Maude, her father, Marvin, dear aunts, Myrtle Ellison and Anita Coles, cousins, extended family of in-laws, and lives she touched in passing through.

Love lasts forever, memories will be recalled, and your light will continue to shine in the darkest of nights for us.

A Homegoing Celebration of Life Service will be held at Landisville Church of God, 171 Church St, Landisville, PA 17538 on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. Margaret had lifelong ties to Lancaster County, PA, where she grew up surrounded by a close-knit family. While she lived in New York State most of her adult life, she remained deeply connected to Lancaster County and to her brothers, John Eichhorn and Richard Eichhorn, both still living in the area.

Margaret earned her BA from Pratt Institute in 1958, where she met her husband, Norman, and an MA in Education from NYU in 1960. She pursued a 30-year career in higher education, teaching clothing, textiles, and fashion design at institutions including NYU and Marymount College. A highlight of her time at Marymount was her production of the annual spring fashion show featuring her students’ original designs.

After retiring from higher education, she authored You Can Make a Dinosaur and Eat It Too, a children’s activity book that combined healthy eating with creativity. She brought the book to life through beloved programs in schools and libraries for nearly three decades.

Over the years, Margaret tended a prolific garden every summer, preserved tomato sauce by the quart, and shared baked goods and home-grown vegetables with neighbors and friends. Her home was filled with the artwork of her grandchildren, with whom she shared a special bond.

Margaret is survived by her children, Richard (Irene) and Claudia (Chris Grey); six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her brothers, John (Audrey) and Richard; and other family and friends.

A private graveside and burial service will be held at Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens in Columbia, PA, and a celebration of her life in Pawling, NY will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Margaret’s memory to a local library, garden, or arts education program. Arrangements are by the Workman Funeral Homes, Inc., 31 South Eighth Street, Columbia, PA. To send an online condolence, visit the condolence page.
