Willie L. Payne

Willie L. Payne, 84, of Lancaster, passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2016. He was the husband of Eloise Redmon Payne, to whom he was married for over 60 years. He was born in Barnard, NC, son of the late Emmitte and Maude Roberts Payne. He was a professor at North Carolina State University before entering the Poultry Industry and was a vice-president of live production having worked for Perdue, Pennfield, and retired from Marshall Durbin in 1996. He was a graduate of Walnut High School, Walnut, North Carolina; a graduate of North Carolina State University; and the University of Maryland, where he received his Doctoral Degree. He was a veteran of the US Navy during the Korean Conflict; a member of Manor Church, attended Hempfield United Methodist Church, where he enjoyed participating in their Bible Study. He enjoyed golfing, wood-working, his computer, and his family.

Surviving in addition to his wife, one son: Leonard R. (Robin) Payne. One daughter: Nancy L. (James) Kelly. Three grandchildren: Amy (Mike) Splain, Zachary (Ally) Payne and Cyndi (Tim) Meredith. Three great-grandchildren: Collin, Tori, and Gabi Meredith. One niece and two nephews. One sister-in-law: Sue Payne. He was preceded in death by one brother: Billy F. Payne.

The Funeral Service will be held at the Workman Funeral Homes, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Mountville on Friday, October 21, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Bruce L. Lefever and Rev. John B. Hawbaker, officiating. Interment in Manor Church Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Friends may call from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M.
