Wilbur K. Hess

Wilbur K. Hess, 87, formerly of Washington Boro, passed away on Friday, April 1, 2016. He was the husband of the late Carrie E. Henry Hess, who passed away on October 21, 2000 and Dorothy Leaman Hess. He was born in Manor Township, son of the late Parke E. and Elizabeth Fox Hess. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for Funk Brothers, Inc. for 50 years before retiring in 2001. He attended First United Methodist Church, Millersville and was a member and past president of the Washington Boro Lions Club for 50 years. He enjoyed fishing and gardening, being known for his potatoes, and pole lima beans that won second place in a competition at the Lampeter Fair. He also won a championship in the Backhoe Rodeo.

Surviving in addition to his wife, his children: Joyce L. (Roger A.) Shinton, Landisville; Brenda L. Hess (Lee Wright), Columbia; Michele D. (Donald S., Jr.) Yohe, Salunga; Stanley K. Hess; Jeffrey A. Hess; Douglas T. (Laura G.) Hess, all of Columbia; and Roger L. (Kelly) Henry, Jr., Denver. Fifteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. One brother: Paul V. Hess, West Hempfield Twp. He was preceded in death by three sisters: Grace Hess, Mary Rohrer, and Ruth Beats. Two brothers: Harry and John Hess.

The Memorial Service will be held at the Workman Funeral Homes, Inc, 114 West Main Street, Mountville on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. with Mary A. Burger, officiating. Interment in Millersville Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. Please omit flowers. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to: Make-A-Wish Foundation, 1054 New Holland Ave., Lancaster, PA 17601 or the Humane League of Lancaster County, 2195 Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster, PA 17602.
