Raymond H. "Ray" Finkbiner

 
 

Raymond H. β€œRay” Finkbiner, 92, of Brethren Village, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 22, 2025, while under hospice care. Ray was the husband of Mary C. Bowman Finkbiner with whom he would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on September 11, 2025. He was born in West Hempfield Township, son of the late Christian H. and Maude E. Snyder Finkbiner.

Ray went to Mountville Elementary School and attended Penn Manor High School and later got his GED. From 1954 to 1956 Ray served in 1W Service in Topeka, KS. Having married in 1955, Mary joined Ray in Kansas where their first son, Jeffrey was born in 1956. After returning to Lancaster, Ray worked on a farm for a few years. In 1960, he graduated and received his diploma from Utilities Engineering Institute, Chicago for training in refrigeration and air conditioning. Ray worked for several contractors before starting his own business, Raymond Finkbiner Service Company and was a member of Refrigeration Service Engineers Society for many years.

He was a member of Mountville Church of the Brethren and was a Life Deacon there. He served on various committees at church.

Ray and Mary enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Canada, Nova Scotia and also coast to coast. They traveled in their travel trailer spending family time camping and also spent a lot of time at their cabin in Tioga County.

Ray enjoyed doing paint by numbers. He painted beautiful paintings.

Surviving in addition to his wife, three sons: Jeffrey L. (Audrey) Finkbiner; Timothy R. (Iris) Finkbiner and Kevin D. (Patrice) Finkbiner. Seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three step grandchildren. One brother: J. Christian (Twila) Finkbiner. He was preceded in death by one sister: Margaret Bollinger. His infant brother: John V. Finkbiner and one step-granddaughter: Jackeline Rodriguez.

A Private Viewing and Funeral Service was held at the Workman Funeral Homes, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Mountville on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Forrest Collier, officiating. Private burial was in Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens.

A Memorial Service will be held at Mountville Church of the Brethren, 60 Clay Street, Mountville on SATURDAY, JULY 12, 2025, AT 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Angela Finet, officiating. All are invited to greet the family and share a luncheon following the service.
