William F. "Bill" Mentzer, III

 
 

William F. "Bill" Mentzer, III, 77, of Columbia, passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2025, quietly at home. He will be greatly missed by Deborah A. Warfel Mentzer, his loving wife of 55 years. Bill was born in Columbia, son of the late William (Verna) Mentzer and Betty (Carl) Tillman. After graduation from Columbia High School in 1966, Bill served during the Vietnam Conflict and was honorably discharged from the US Army in 1969, where he was a member of the 551st Transportation Company. He went on to work and retired from Armstrong World Industries, Lancaster Floor Plant. In his spare time, Bill coached midget football, baseball and softball for CBAA (Columbia Borough Athletic Association). He was a life member of the VFW, a Legionnaire of the Americal Legion Post #34, Lancaster and the Hambones Social Club, Columbia. Bill was an avid watcher/listener of the Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburg Steelers, drag racing and NASCAR. He also loved his muscle cars and classic rock music.

Surviving in addition to his wife, his children: Bill, IV; Jeffery (Tamara) and Crystal Mentzer, all of Columbia. Two brothers: Robert Mentzer, Florida and Mike Mentzer, Pequea. Also, many nephews and nieces from both sides of the family. (Not Uncle Bill).

Thank you for your service and welcome home dad. Bill will be greatly missed by family and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be scheduled at a later date. Bill will be laid to rest at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, with full military honors.
