Verna E. Shertzer, 94, of West Hempfield Township, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday morning, December 31, 2025, at St. Anne's Retirement Community. Verna was married 66 years to Norman C. Shertzer, who entered his eternal rest in March of 2022. She was born in Rapho Township, daughter of the late Albert E. and Ruth Erb Fry, of Manheim. Verna wholeheartedly lived her life with Jesus, loving and serving others, especially her family. She was a dedicated homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She also cared for many children of others in her home, taught children in Sunday school for many years and worked at the Re-Uzit Shop, Columbia, for 30 years. Verna was a member of Life Fellowship Church and attended Mountville Mennonite Church.
Verna is survived by four sons: Jay (Sandy) Shertzer, Fayetteville, TN; Phil (Joy) Shertzer, Mountville; Nelson (Kim) Shertzer, Washington Boro and Jim (Michelle) Shertzer, Lancaster. Eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Verna took care of her boys all of her life. She was preceded in death by one brother: Albert E. Fry.
The Funeral Service will be held to remember Verna's life at Mountville Mennonite Church, 205 Froelich Avenue, Mountville on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor James Laverty, officiating.
