Mildred A. "Millie" Leaman Hess Shue, 104, of Mountville, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2026. She was the wife of the late Clarence Hess, who passed away in 1967 and also the wife of the late Harrison Shue, who passed away in 1995. Millie was born in Marietta, daughter of the late John R. and Jennie Sweigart Leaman.
Millie was a graduate of Columbia High School, Class of 1939. She took numerous banking courses through Franklin & Marshall evening school. She was employed by Fulton Bank, Mountville in various positions for 27 years and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. Millie was the oldest member of Central Manor Church and loved spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed cooking and crocheting for her family.
She is survived by four children: John J. (Bonnie) Hess, Gettysburg; Georgia Hess Fry, Washington Boro; Twyla Hess LaVoie, Maine and Beth Hess (Tom) Kitzmiller, York. Eleven grandchildren: Jennie Hess Brown, Josephine Hess Riser, Jayne Hess Sebright, Joy Hess Widerman, Jolyn Fry, Rebecca Fry, Sarah Fry, Aaron Fry, Daniel LaVoie, Samuel Kitzmiller and Benjamin Kitzmiller. Twenty-two great-grandchildren. Six great-great-grandchildren and one on the way. She was preceded in death by one daughter: Jennie Hess in 1958, at age 12. One grandson: John R. Hess, in 2025. Two brothers: J. Lloyd and Warren Leaman. One sister: Verna Leaman Murry.
Mildred's children and their families are thankful to John Hostetter, Jr., for taking care of their mother in her last years.
The Funeral Service will be held at Central Manor Church, 387 Penn Street, Washington Boro, PA 17582 on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Scott Davis, officiating. Friends may call from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Interment in Habecker Mennonite Cemetery. Please omit flowers. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to: Central Manor Church.
