Dorothy E."Dottie" Aulthouse Kopp

September 11, 2017 Gregory Workman
Kopp, D.JPG

Dorothy Elizabeth Kopp, 95 years young, passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at Masonic Village surrounded by her family and dear friends. Dottie, formerly of Columbia, and Lancaster, was the daughter of the late George C. Aulthouse and Elizabeth Steffy Aulthouse Mease, and step-daughter of Harry K. Mease. Dottie was a 1940 graduate of Columbia High School, where she served as Class Secretary in her Junior and Senior years. She enjoyed many school clubs, and was also a cheerleader in her Senior year. She was a 70 year member of Otterbein United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years, as well as serving on other church committees. Dottie will be greatly remembered for her service as Director of the Otterbein UMC Senior Citizens Group, for 35 years. She planned and accompanied her seniors on many trips and activities through the years (and even toted her granddaughters along on occasion). Dottie was one of the first Girl Scout Leaders in Manheim Township; was a Counselor at Children’s Camp at Mt. Gretna; and later served as Director of Senior Camp at Gretna Glen. In addition to her service to others, she had an interesting working career. She was a well-known teller for Farmer’s First Bank and Bank of Lancaster County, where her customers (and their pets, who knew Dottie had treats) looked forward to seeing her at the teller window. She later worked for the Cashiering and Admission’s Departments at Franklin and Marshall College, Watt & Shand Department Store, and eventually retired from the former St. Joseph Hospital. After retiring, she moved back “home” to Columbia where she and her many friends enjoyed each other’s comradery at St. Peter’s Apartments, where she lived through 2015.

Dottie is survived by her daughter: Marilyn J. McKain, Landisville. Her son: Mark R. (Becky) Kopp, East Petersburg. Her son-in-law: Howard Mundorf, Lancaster. Her nephew: Michael (Sharon) Fritz, Mount Joy. She is also survived by her dearly loved grandchildren: Tedd (Sharon) McKain, Raleigh, NC; Doug (Susan) McKain, Lititz; Gay Erb, Lancaster; Jill McKain, Manheim; Matthew (Natalie) Mundorf, Lancaster; Angela McKain, Mountville; Julie (Mark) Boldizar, Lancaster; and Alexander (fiancé: Laura Gathercole) Kopp, Rosedale, MD. Thirteen cherished great-grandchildren. Five great-great-grandchildren. Two great nieces and their families. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter: Karen S. Mundorf. Son-in-law: George “Ted” McKain. Her sister: Betty Jane Fritz.

A Time of Remembrance will be held at Otterbein United Methodist Church, 20 East Clay Street, Lancaster, PA 17602 on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2017 from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Private interment in Mountville Cemetery. Please omit flowers. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to: Otterbein United Methodist Church.
