Beatrice M. Boyd

Beatrice M. Burley Boyd, 94, formerly of Mountville, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Masonic Village. She was the wife of the late Norman A. Boyd, who passed away in 2005. She was born in Manchester, England, daughter of the late Arthur F. and Ella Hewitt Burley. She worked as a bank receptionist in Worcester, MA for 20 years before her retirement in 1987. Beatrice served in the Women’s Royal Air Force during WWII (1942-1945). She was a member of Church of the Apostles, United Church of Christ. And enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, needle work and spending time with her family.

She is survived by one daughter: Christine B. (Norman) Fortier, Lancaster. One son: Andrew (Martha) Boyd, Shrewsbury, MA. Four grandchildren: Jamie A. Fortier, Jillian L. Stauffer, Victoria A. McCarthy, and Simon Boyd. Seven great-grandchildren: Gabrielle Fortier, Marc Fortier, Juliette Boyd, Naomi Boyd, Andrew Boyd, Lucille McCarthy, and Brady Stauffer.

Myrtle K. Barto

January 24, 2017 Gregory Workman

Myrtle K. Barto, 87, of Landis Homes, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at Lancaster General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Daniel E. Barto, who passed away on July 27, 2010. She was born in Pottstown, daughter of the late Herbert W. and Elizabeth Koch Bean. Myrtle was a loving wife and mother of five children, devoted to her family. In high school she was varsity captain of her field hockey team. She enjoyed a lifetime of singing in her church choirs and had a beautiful soprano voice. Her love of flowers and passion for gardening made this her favorite pastime. She also loved cooking and baking and made many wonderful meals. Myrtle and her family also went on many family vacations and traveled to many wonderful places. She and her husband Daniel moved from Pottstown to Willow Street in 1965. They retired to Colorado, where they enjoyed hiking, jeeping, and fishing for 10 years before returning to Lancaster. Myrtle spent the last three years, happily, at Landis Homes, where she was blessed by special friends and a wonderful staff.

Surviving are three sons: Larry D. husband of Sandra J. (Hull) Barto, Spicewood, TX; Thomas L. husband of Laura A. (Barnhill) Barto, Wheaton, IL; and David A. Barto, Lancaster. Two daughters: Linda S. Hagen companion of Dennis M. Davin, Pittsburgh; and Debra A. wife of Anthony D. Vital, Jr., Lancaster. Nine grandchildren: Eric Barto, Cheryl (Barto) Shoults; Cindy Barto; Danielle (Barto) Gosky; Chelsea Hagen; Dylan Vital; Jeremy Vital; Courtney (Vital) Kriebs; and Jesse Vital. Six great-grandchildren: Peyton Barto; Karter Barto; Liv Kriebs; Mia Kriebs; Royce Vital; and Daniel Shoults (Due March 14). Four siblings: Arline (Bean) Gohean; Ethel (Bean) Miller; Martha (Bean) Baynes; and Ronald Bean. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Harold Bean, and Carl Bean.

Lieutenant Colonel Douglass Greene, (Retired)

Lieutenant Colonel Douglass Greene, Retired, 92, of Columbia. passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy, with his loving family by his side. He previously resided in the Memory Care Connections at Providence Place, Dover, PA for the past four years. He was the husband of the late Isabelle Greene and Helen Hess Keck Greene, with whom he would have celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on April 27, 2017. Having been born into a prominent, US Army family, the fifth of seven children, to the late Douglass Taft Greene and Eleanora Lenihan Greene, he continued this military tradition along with each of his brothers. His was a lifelong, enlisted, and civilian US Army Career, obtaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Serving during the Korean Conflict, he finished his civilian career at the New Cumberland Army Depot. Following his retirement, he then proceeded to become the knowledgeable paint personnel at the York and Lancaster Hechinger and Home Depot Stores for twenty years. He was an avid reader, and was rarely found without a book in his hand. Also, he loved doing yardwork and most often could be found working outside every day. He played a decent game of golf and was a congenial person who was liked by everyone.

Surviving in addition to his wife, two daughters: Elizabeth M. Greene, Troy, PA; and Carol A. Greene, Gadsden, AL. Two sons: Douglass P. Greene, Gadsden, AL; and Kevin S. (Linda) Greene, Kennesaw, GA. One step-daughter: Glenda (Samuel) Gatchell, Lancaster. One step-son: Brian (Michele) Keck, Blandon, PA. Six grandchildren: Nicholas and Christopher Lombardo; Katherine and Renee Greene; Rachel Lake; and Joseph Greene. Three great-grandchildren: Joseph A., Riley L., and Skylar. Two step-grandchildren: Joel (Theresa) Kise; and Joshua (Michelle) Kise. And many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by one daughter: Sharon Greene, and also five brothers and one sister.

The Memorial Service will be held at the Workman Funeral Homes, Inc., 31 South Eighth Street, Columbia on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at 7:00 P.M. Patricia F. Morris, 81, of West Lampeter Twp., passed away on Monday, January 16, 2017. She was born in Lancaster, daughter of the late Frederick W. and Maude F. Hayford Joost. She was a financial advisor for Thrivent Lutheran Services and also worked at Lowe’s. She was a member of Concordia Evangelical Lutheran Church, their Altar Guild and served as an assistant minister. She was a Master Gardener; a member of the Mayflower Society, 12th Generation; and sang in the Ephrata Cloister’s singing group.

She is survived by one son: Chuck R. (Debra L.) Wolf, West Lampeter Twp. Two daughters: Deborah L. (Anthony J., Sr.) Purcell, Lancaster and Lynne F. (John P.) Wertz, South Carolina. Three grandchildren: Anthony J. Purcell, Jr., Heather N. Wolf, and Chad R. Wolf, III. Two great-grandchildren: Tasha Storm, and Brady T. Wolf. One brother: Frederick W. (Rosie) Joost, Jr., Lancaster. One sister: Sandra G. (Robert) Coleman, Kansas.

Ruth E. Evans

Ruth E. Evans, 103, of Columbia, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2017. She was the wife of the late John J. Evans, Sr., to whom she was married for 61 years, before he passed away in 1998. She was born in Wilkes-Barre, daughter of the late George and Lulu Lamoreaux Dressel. Ruth worked as a seamstress at Kahn-Lucas Manufacturing, Co.; was the head cook at St. Anthony’s Catholic School; worked at Woolworth’s, Lancaster; and owned a corner grocery store at Third and Poplar Streets for 14 years.

She is survived by one son: John J. (Ann) Evans, Jr., Conestoga. Five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter: Ruth Ann Gorrecht. Four sisters and one brother.

Michael H. LaBow, 63, of Mountville, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2017 at home. He was the husband of Cheryl A. Zerphy LaBow, with whom he celebrated their 21st wedding anniversary on May 5, 2016. He was born in Alexandria Bay, NY, son of the late Jean A. LaBow and Carol Walts Hannesson, Sun City Center, FL. He was a bio-medical engineer at Lancaster General Hospital for more than 20 years. He was a veteran of the US Navy, and enjoyed golfing, fishing, NASCAR, playing the guitar, listening to music, and he loved his dog, “Jasper”. He also achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.

Surviving in addition to his wife and mother, his children: Christopher A. (Becky) LaBow, LaFargeville, NY; Chelsea M. (Karl) Murphy, Sandy Hook, CT; Craig M. (Kaire) LaBow, Landisville; A. Jason (Rose) Licht, Columbia; and Keith R. (Isabela) Lichtm Chambersburg. Ten grandchildren: Carley, Morgan, Ella, Emily, Riley, Connor, Lance, Nadia, Brett, and Elliot. Two sisters: Cindy (Gary) Edick, Gouverneur, NY; and Brenda Minasian, Johnson City, TN.

Beverly J. Boyd

Beverly J. Boyd, 84, of Mountville, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at the Mennonite Home. She was the wife of W. Craig Boyd to whom she was married for 58 years. She was born in Harrisburg, daughter of the late Jesse Jacob and Sara Catherine Sixeas Klock. She was of the Lutheran Faith, a graduate of Shippensburg State University, Class of 1954, an animal lover, and always had dogs or cats.

Surviving in addition to her husband, two sons: C. David (Wendy D.) Boyd, Shillington and L. Allan (Gabriele) Boyd, Manheim. Two grandsons: Andrew D. Vitalo and Zachary D. Boyd.

Laura R. Gomez

Laura Rene Richards Gomez, 52, of Mount Joy passed away on Friday, December 30, 2016. She was the wife of the late Robert Gomez whom she married on November 23, 1985. She was born in Michigan, daughter of Wesley Richards and the late Janet Bower Richards. Laura previously worked at Fulton Bank as a Loan Processor. She loved her family and her late husband and had planned her life around them. Family was very important to her. She also loved animals and had a terrific sense of humor.

Surviving in addition to her father, one daughter: Rebekah E. (Ben) Hoh, Mount Joy, and one son: Wesley A. Gomez (Companion of Sasafras Gingrich, Lancaster. Four sisters: Amanda Adkins, Julia Shehan, Kathleen Darragh, and Jessica Richards.

Doris M. Dellen, 89, of Columbia, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, January 2, 2017 at Lancaster General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Francis A. Dellen, Sr. who passed away in 1990. She was born in Columbia, daughter of the late John W. and Helen Mae Musser Hippey. She worked at the former Penn Supreme Milk Bar for 17 years. She attended Wrightsville Assembly of God and was a woman of great faith. She loved Philadelphia Phillies baseball, and feeding the squirrels and cats at the Trinity House Apartments.

She is survived by one niece, one nephew, seven grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. She was preceded in death by one son: Francis A. Dellen, Jr. One daughter: Diana Hake. One granddaughter: Katrina Lightcap. One brother: Robert Hippey.

Ronald J. Kissinger

Ronald J. Kissinger, 55, of Marietta, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2017, following a brief illness. He was the husband of Tina M. Yingling Kissinger, with whom he was together for 22 ½ years. He was born in Lancaster, son of the late Harold G. and Catharine E. Klinger Kissinger. He was an over-the-road truck driver for several years. He was a veteran of the US Navy; a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints; and was a train enthusiast, enjoying watching them and taking photos. Ron was also a secretary in the Boy Scout’s for a few years.

Surviving in addition to his wife, one brother: Donald L. (Sue) Kissinger. One brother-in-law: Roger Young. Numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister: Marilynn Young.

A Private Service will be held for the family with interment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Louis R. McCreight

Louis R. McCreight, 94, of Woodcrest Villa, passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Lancaster General Hospital. He was the husband of Malvina E. Smith McCreight with whom he celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on October 15, 2016. He was born in Zion, IL, son of the late Ralph B. and Phronia Benkendorf McCreight. Louis had a distinguished career in the atomic and aerospace fields, starting with being an Assistant Research Associate at MIT for the Manhattan Project (1944-45); Knolls Atomic Power Lab (1949-55); Manager of Materials Research and Development at General Electric Missile and Space Division (1955-81), where he held numerous US Patents. He furthered his career as Director of Materials Science Lab at Aerospace Corp, Segunda, CA from 1981 until his retirement in 1992.

Louis held both a BS and MS in Ceramic Engineering from the University of Illinois. He was very active in the Boy Scouts, including president of the Chester County Council (1979-81); Vice-president of the Upper Main Line YMCA (1973-81); Officer of American Ceramic Society; ASTM Research Committee; and Materials Research Society. Louis was also a member of First Presbyterian Church, Lancaster.

Surviving in addition to his wife, one son: Brian R. (Paula L.) McCreight, Washington Boro. One daughter: Barbara L. McCreight, San Jose, CA. Four grandchildren: Owen M., Tyler S., Chloe E. A., and Taylor N.T. McCreight. Three great-grandchildren: Kira Heaps, Owen M., Jr., and Braelyn A. McCreight. He was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Eagle Commons at Woodcrest Villa, 2001 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster on Monday, January 2, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. with Chaplain Mim Cruz, officiating. James E. Weaver, Jr.

James E. Weaver, Jr., 75, of Lancaster, passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2016. He was the husband of Carlene D. Rupert Weaver, with whom he would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on March 31, 2017. He was born in Lancaster, son of the late James E., Sr. and Virginia Patterson Weaver. Jim worked as a parts manager for R.S. Hollinger & Son, Inc. for 26 years before his retirement in 2016. He enjoyed watching TV, loved going to Disney World, to the shore at Wildwood, NJ, and his children.

Surviving in addition to his wife, his children: Denise L. Delmotte, Christine L. Stedmen, and James E. Weaver, III. Numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and four sisters.

Margaret C. Heisey

Margaret C. Heisey, 98, formerly of Marietta and Mountville, passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Oak Leaf Manor-North. She was the wife of the late William H. Heisey, who passed away in 1982. She was born in Marietta, daughter of the late Joseph N. and Agnes Kearney Carroll. She was a member of Donegal Presbyterian Church where she was the first woman elder of the church. A graduate of Marietta High School, Class of 1936 and the Lancaster Business College. She was a member for 60 plus years of the Farm Women’s Society #8; Star Route Mail Contractors Women’s Auxiliary; and a life member of the Mount Joy Leisure Club.

She is survived by one daughter: Ann (Don) Splain. Two grandchildren. Five great-grandchildren. One brother: Charles Carroll. She was preceded in death by three brothers: Joseph, James, and Roy Carroll. Two sisters: Mary Ann Carroll and Agnes Houseal.

The Memorial Service will be held at Donegal Presbyterian Church, 1891 Donegal Springs Road, Mount Joy, on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Matthew D. Randolph, officiating. Dorothy E. Ault

Dorothy E. Ault, 93, formerly of Mountville, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2016. She was the wife of the late William H. Ault who passed away on May 13, 2001. She was born in Mountville, daughter of the late Wilhelm and Sadie Blumenshine Lockard. She attended The Lord’s House of Prayer. She enjoyed hooking rugs, collecting antiques, having her house featured in Country Living Magazine, cooking, and canning. She was a member of the Senior Club (Recycled Teenagers Club). Her life was transformed by the power of Jesus through forgiveness and love, and she had an attitude of being thankful and believing the best. She will be greatly missed by her family.

She is survived by four grandchildren: Tammy Rine, Debbie Kroll, Lisa Lee, and Matthew Kroll. Seven great-grandchildren: Todd Rine, Kyle Rine, Lauren Rine, Rebekah Kroll, Areanna Kroll, Taylor Lee, and Mikayla Lee. Two great-great-grandchildren: Ella McDonald and Brooklyn Monroe Shot. She was preceded in death by two daughters: Barbara Ann Kroll and Dotty Davis.

Irene G. Deets, 82, of Columbia, passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2016. She was the wife of the late Oscar Deets, who passed away in 1993. She was born in Columbia, daughter of the late Charles H. and Irene Bachman VonStetten. Irene was very active as an Avon Representative for more than 30 years and enjoyed reading, going to the library and the movies, her family, especially her grandchildren and great-granddaughter.

She is survived by her children: Lynn Ann (Earl) Musser, Barry L. Deets, Steven O. (Sheri) Deets, all of Columbia and Charles W. Deets (partner of Richard Kepley), Lebanon. Eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Donald G. Przybylinski

Donald G. Przybylinski, age 81, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at his home in Lower Windsor Twp. He was the husband of Juanita, his wife of 34 years. He was born in Michigan city, Indiana, son of the late Alex and Cecilia Przybylinski. Donald attended Purdue, Notre Dame, and Indiana Universities before receiving his Law Degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, and was a veteran of the US Army, serving in Germany during the Cold War, after which he entered Federal Service. Among his many positions with the Federal Government, Donald served for 14 years as the Special Counsel for the Office of Hearings and Appeals, Social Security Administration in the Washington, D.C. area. It was acknowledged by the agency that he was the guardian of ethical considerations and conscience. He was also acknowledged for his presentations before various national legal organizations.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Juanita, two brothers: Thomas and Robert Przybylinski. He was also the loving step-father of Diane Sevier and David and Karen Miller. He was the grandfather of Stephen and Dakota Sevier, and Christopher, Jessica and Francis Miller. He was preceded in death by one brother: Gregory Przybylinski.

Jean L. McCoy McMahon, 86, of Mountville, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at Masonic Village. She was the wife of the late John F. “Jack” McMahon who passed away on October 21, 2014. She was born in Loysville, daughter of the late John and Stella Neely McCoy. She was a homemaker and the caregiver for her family. Jean was a member of Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, and for several years, served on the Evangelist Committee. She enjoyed writing children’s poems for her grandchildren, planting her flower beds, and reading.

She is survived by three daughters: Christine (David) Moss, Corona, NM; Susan and Stephanie McMahon, both of Mountville. Two grandchildren: Christopher (Janelle) Moss, Lancaster, and Leah (Michael) Parham, Charlotte, NC. Two great-grandsons: Ean and Wyatt Parham. Two nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by one son: Michael McMahon; and one sister: Patricia Long.

The Memorial Service will be held at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 3131 Columbia Ave., Lancaster, on Friday, December 16, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. Clifton D. Eshbach, officiating. Robert E. Haines

Robert E. Haines, 77, of Lancaster, passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2016. He was born in Coatesville, son of the late George E. and Sara T. Fuller Haines. He was a laborer for Armstrong World Industries for 38 years before his retirement in 2002. He attended Historic St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was a veteran of the US Army. He was a member of AMVETS Post #19; the American Legion Post #466; VFW Red Rose Memorial Post #2435; and Chickies Rock Lodge #307 Order of the Moose. He also enjoyed hunting.

Robert is survived by his children: George E. (Judith A.) Haines; Julie A. (Keith A.) Kirchner; Scott D. Haines, all of Lancaster; and Robert J. (Susan) Spangler, Nottingham. Five grandchildren. One great-granddaughter. One brother: Charles Haines, Lititz. Two sisters: Agnes Haines, Lancaster; and Betty Shirk, Mountville. He was preceded in death by one sister: Anne Elbert.

Evelyn M. Somers, 87, of Lancaster, formerly of Norvelt, passed away on Friday, December2, 2016 at St. Anne’s Retirement Community, Columbia, PA. She was the wife of the late Robert E. Somers, who passed away in 1994. She was born in United, daughter of the late Jacob and Josephine Frances Schick Lowther. Evelyn was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of Pleasant Unity Memorial Post #8643. She also enjoyed her family.

She is survived by: James E. Fox, Lancaster, husband of the late Debra A. Fox. Two grandchildren: Heather L. wife of Mike V. Mailus, Millersville and Eric R. husband of Kristi L. Stahlman, Lancaster. Five great-grandchildren. In addition to her daughter, she was preceded in death by two brothers.

Paris G. “MUTT” Sauder, Sr., 76, of Columbia, passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at home. He was the husband of Lois D. Feltch Sauder, to whom he was married for 57 years. MUTT was born in Columbia, son of the late Harry and Ruth Adamier Sauder. He was a molder for Donsco, Inc. for 35 years. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, his cabin, dogs, farming, and his family.

Surviving in addition to his wife, his children: Deborah J. Bohn, Paris G. Sauder, Jr., and Glenn A. Sauder, Sr. Nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Three brothers and two sisters. He was preceded in death by one son: Michael Sauder and one daughter: Sherry Sauder.

The Funeral Service will be held at the Workman Funeral Homes, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Mountville on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. Lawrence S. Moir, officiating.
